It's explained in episode 10 I think (before the accident in the car) when FL told him that he smiled when her sleeve detached from her blouse at the mall. So at one point during shopping he was happy.

Then, he saw that she is broken like him, and kind with his daughter and family and smart. Plus, she awoke him from his hell and they experienced similar things. So I think there are plenty reasons. When in rom com usually they fell in love with no reasons at all.
