Shittest camerawork I have ever witnessed in a cinematic art form, are they even trying to hide the fact that the cinematographer is super amateur? When they're suppose to use a stabiliser, they don't, when it's suppose to be dolly track, they used shoulder mount. Where the hell did the budget go.
For those contemplating on watching this, don't, it's a waste of time. Manufactured cliff hangars and little to no school involvement as the cover art and genre tag might suggest. It is more of a cheap suspense that ended up disappointing over and over again because you honestly don't know what you want out of this drama? The truth of why the focus character died? So what if you find out, the drama utterly fails to give the audience a reason to care why he died. For the whole time, I was more concerned for the main character and Shiori's relationship.
This is perhaps the laziest screenwriting I have ever seen. Pick any scene and you'd notice that there's hardly any emotion and depth, all the characters are two-dimensional and felt like robots. And I applaud the composer for trying to inject emotion into the scenes as that is the only thing that made me feel something.
Can someone tell me why when Kuroiwa is 18, her mother still does not approve his relationship with his teacher? Citing that he's a minor, why is 18 considered "minor"? Is this a Japan thing?
This drama definitely has an appeal, I think the biggest problem is that it's 56 minutes long per ep, bit of an overkill, some scenes are unnecessary and boring in my opinion.
Don't watch this, I got bored like a third way through and resorted to increasing playback speed to x4.0 because of how bad it is. The 1993 drama made this film redundant and it is in my opinion the attempt to cash in on the hype of the drama.
I don't like the characters, but I kept watching because the cinematography is absolutely excellent, so good that this felt like a 6 hour movie rather than a TV drama. I must say I saw a bit of myself in Wako, and I'm always curious how she'd approach a situation, and her actress' performance is absolutely fantastic, love her. This drama was really enjoyable up until Iko became somewhat manipulative and sociopathic, seeking only sex with Wako and the guarantee that she wouldn't leave him. I don't even consider their age gap to be the disturbing aspect of the drama. A young man acting by only his lust and passion is more disturbing in my opinion. Or maybe Iko is just a poorly written character, all I got is that he loves cinema and Wako's attention for him and only him (with bit of sex on the side), it's bit two-dimensioned perhaps. He was a respectful and dignified boy near the beginning of the drama, but then he raped Wako at that cinema's lasting screening, I just really felt disgusted at that scene, as if they suddenly switched writer or this character. The ending was bittersweet, I guess? Iko is still that Wako-obsessed young boy we know, so for me, this stagnation ultimately soured this drama. If I could improve the script, I'd have Iko understand that love and relationship is more than just sex, passion, and obsession, and life isn't as easy as "I'll just get a job to support us both". Come to think of it, if you have a friend who wants to live and work in Japan, perhaps show them this drama to give them a wake up call.
Should there be Kou Kou Kyoushi 2019??Damn I wish ueto aya reprised her role and this time as a strong teacher.
Nojima should've written something for 2013, but apparently the school (Japan Christian Junior College) that the shoot was done at was closed in 2009 and now it's a residential area. I guess that had something to do with it? Or maybe it's the terrible ratings Koukou Kyoushi 2003 received. Maybe the market for schoolgirl romance has died off. But personally I'd welcome a Koukou Kyoushi sequel anytime.
What a lackluster ending, why his wife committed suicide is never thoroughly explained besides "She is manipulative, even in death", and why he suddenly decided to inform that she cannot go with him is simply a poorly set up plot device to drive the finale. This could've developed into something that had substance, akin to Kou Kou Kyoushi, but this is just poor writing in my opinion, thought Nojima had something good going on.
What a good drama, I just couldn't put it down, I knew I was in for a post drama withdrawal syndrome, and there it was, so this is a warning to those who are interested. What a shame it has to end, I really want to watch more of Mayu.
