Am I the only one who feels like the writing kinda went downhill as the drama went on? The Ming storyline dragged things out way too much. Did we really need a full Korea vs Ming cooking competition with endless translations between the languages of 2 countries? They could’ve explored so much more with the villain story, and still had the opportunity to show her cooking skills.
I get that food is the main theme (and it’s clearly inspired by Dae Jang Geum) but the romance should’ve been a main theme too. The leads had amazing chemistry, but we barely got anything. She was always in the kitchen or searching for ingredients while the king kept falling for her, and HER PERSPECTIVE WAS HARDLY SHOWN. Now with only 2 eps left, she’s in prison, and the story feels like a whole new arc.
I still like the drama, but the romance was really underdeveloped. If they try to focus on it in the last 2 eps, it’ll feel rushed, especially with how good their small moments together were. Ideally this should have been a 16 eps drama, which would have been perfect.
With the Mangunrok book setup, I’m expecting she’ll return to the future and we’ll get a bittersweet Scarlet Heart Ryeo style ending.
It’s fishy to me considering hw some bad one get good ratings
That's because it's airing on TV Chosun which is a small network which can't be compared to TV stations like tvN or JTBC. I guess this is the first kdrama airing for the whole year, and Amazon Prime is the main distributor amyways. This is also Amazon's first original kdrama, so this is basically an experiement at this point. If this aired on Netflix or another channel like tvN viewership would have been much higher

He's the same king from Queen for 7 days portrayed by Lee Dong-gun.
