I was also very put off that there was an immediate r*pe scene. While not uncommon in BL to see SA and r*pe (I specify bc they are different things) it’s frustrating when I was so excited to see a Yakuza-style BL from Japan.
I’m used to low budget (like REALLY low budget) so none of that bothers me but it’s like you said, there’s tons of issues with this one from the start.
I love your comparison to KinnPorsche. Because even with that drama’s faults, it’s still one of the greats.
Hey, friend, I was looking to clear a few things up in terms of the production points you'd made. In Chinese dramas, it is more often than not that you're going to see them dubbed. Due to the extensive number of dialects in China, voice actors will dub over the footage in "standard/traditional" Mandarin so that their words are clear and easier to understand for Mandarin speakers. (In fact, lots of actors do not dub for themselves as they have strong dialects and/or accents!) As for the footsteps and some other sound effects, I can understand how they seem odd or off in a way, but from what it looks like, production cuts the audio entirely for them to be able to dub, so they add in footsteps and other sounds. I do understand it's a bit different from how Korea, Thailand, and Japan do things, but it's just how it is in Chinese media and has been since I started watching their dramas. Source: I have watched LOTS of CDramas in my life and have friends from China and Taiwan who have explained these things to me in the past when I was curious about it. I hope this doesn't come off as rude, just looking to ensure there's no misunderstanding.
