Lol I hope this doesn't come off as picking over bones, but I'm going to stand by what I said for Devil judge too, actually. Kitchen is a noun, but we use it as an adjective to describe what kind of knife (ie. Don't play with the kitchen knife!) Meat is also a noun, but we use it as an adjective to specify a kind hook (Dang, I didn't know meat hooks were so expensive). A computer is a noun, but we use it to describe the kind of case (I love my computer case). In each case, you could switch it into an adject clause as "the knife used in the kitchen" "the hook which hangs meat" and "the case for my computer"

We use nouns as adjectives of purpose or type all the time in English (love story, car race, soccer ball, , and Devil Judge is no different in my opinion. He is a judge for devils, or alternatively his attributes make him appear to be suited for a certain thing. Re: Splish Splash Love - I agree we don't normally use onomatopoeia in front of nouns or verbs like they might in Korean, so I can see your point there

Re: Clean with Passion for now - What grammar rule says you can't use "with + noun" to describe how a verb is done? I'm honestly curious on this one, phrases like "sing with abandon" "spoke with great vigor" "handle with care" don't seem wrong to me. Similarly, the lack of a comma could be an error here, but it also doesn't seem out of place: My teacher asked me to hold on to his old textbooks for now. (I'm less sure on this one and would appreciate it if you could enlighten me on if/why it's necessary)

Sorry, that totally wasn't clear. In the case of True Beauty, the title came from the webtoon. So the translators who made the drama title probably had little say in the matter because they'd probably use the webtoon title's translation (which was already being translated into English at the time under the title "True Beauty"). So I agree the translation isn't the best, but as far as drama translators go we'd have to blame the webtoon title translator, not the drama one :)

This is not meant to be invalidation of your hard work/opinion but rather a defense of people who have a hard job to translate the titles and may have just had a different take on it than you.

I don't know how Just Between Lovers transformed into Rain and Shine. Just between Lovers is an ok translation, an alternate could be "We're just lovers". The title reads almost like the answer to a question: Who is this guy? How do you know him? "We're just lovers"

Boys Over Flowers is a fairly literal translation of the Korean title, which makes a comparison between boys and flowers (also probably not super correct in Korea, but more acceptible because they have historical/cultural associations with men and flowers)

I agree GT isn't perfect (nor should it be used for translation). My only comment to this is that as a translator, I'd want to make sure I was using the official/accepted translation for a title (as I would for a law, etc.) rather than trying to make sense of it.

I disagree with you on a few of the titles-- The Devil Judge (if Devil is being used as an adjective to describe what he is, then this is actually just fine. It's the same as saying the Judge who is a devil, holiday pay, or kitchen knife)

Clean with Passion for now - although this title could have benefited from some punctuation (Clean with passion, for now) I think it is a more fluent translation than "Clean it like it's hot" which brings to mind the image of something fresh or right out of the oven--not what they're referring to when they talk about this man and his compulsive desires to clean).

Splish Splash Love - the original title is "퐁당퐁당 Love" although I was not immediately familiar with 퐁당퐁당, I recognized it immediately as an onomatopoeia. In this case, the English onomatopoeia splish - splash sounds a lot better and retains the same meaning as " with a plop/splash". Unless a title is meant to take more creative liberties, I think they did a good job.

Going my home - just fault the original title writers on this one, there's not much a translator can (or should) do when there's a mistake in the source text. The English title is just a transliteration of the Korean.

I didn't watch this for so long because the initial reception was so mixed. I feel gipped I didnt choose to watch it live. Watching all at once it felt fast paced, never draggy. Deep themes, lovely OTP, great actors.

This show sounds crazy, but I'm probably going to watch it because I'm a sucker for thrillers and hospice dramas. :)

Totally watched this until 1AM this morning. The first episode and a half are fairly slow, but boy does it get good after that! I'm on board!
