What does a "normal" human look like? Are they White? Asian? Black? Hispanic? Christian? Muslim? Jewish? Atheist? I'm guessing by "normal" you mean normal for you. The world is a very very big place. I suggest you get out there and see some of it. There is no normal. Normality is a very subjective thing because what seems normal to you would seem completely bizarre and strange to someone else. I'm not even going to mention the homophobia because if you can't understand why saying something like "I'm a normal human" is so moronic then there's very little hope of you grasping greater concepts about humanity. I'm not gay by the way... I'm just offended at the possibility of being lumped in with the "normal" humans... I like our strange world and all the little weirdos in it. I couldn't imagine anything more boring than being normal.
I don't understand why this man doesn't get more ML roles... Apart from being fine as hell he is also an incredibly talented actor. Absolutely captivating on screen. I remember first seeing him in Misaeng. He played a relatively minor role in a drama full of amazing actors and performances yet he still managed to stand out.
yeah, where's my boy? we're on episode 10 and no Wang Duo yet. 😤
I know right! It is just so shockingly dark and brutal that I wonder how it even got through censorship.
So do you believe he is actually alive at the end of the story? Personally I liked the ambiguity of his fate. I feel like it deliberately allows the viewer to decide for themselves. We never see him again so logic suggests he's gone. But the poem hints that he escaped somehow. So why does it end without showing the viewers their happy reunion... I love how beautifully cruel it is that we never know for sure - but we can hope.
yeah, where's my boy? we're on episode 10 and no Wang Duo yet. 😤
Lol at you putting the spoiler warning at the end of all the many many spoilers 🤣🤣 I'll have to give BR a rewatch because reading that I realize I've forgotten a lot of the plot. I don't forget how it ends though... there's some shit you'll NEVER forget 🤣🤣🤣
yeah, where's my boy? we're on episode 10 and no Wang Duo yet. 😤
Yes! He played such a captivating character in Bloody Romance that even all these years later it still stands out for me. I feel like Bloody Romance is such an underrated show in general though that more people should check out.
Wang Duo was also great in the movie The Yin-Yang Master: Dream of Eternity if you haven't seen it yet.
I only just noticed the English title says a A League of NobleMAN... I'm just gonna try pretend like I never saw that and keep calling it A League of Noblemen :D
Interesting article that a lot of people will relate to. I think having slumps is probably an inevitable consequence of binge watching dramas. I only started watching dramas at the start of the pandemic but in the last few months I have already started dropping more dramas than I finish.
Like others have suggested, I would give C dramas a shot if you want some really simplistic sugary sweet romance dramas. There are literally thousands of them - which I avoid for the most part lol. Personally I actually love those edgy dark themed K dramas. But now and then I just feel like watching something light and fluffy too.
Off the top of my head I can remember two C dramas that are just pure romance dramas with like zero angst - Put Your Head on My Shoulder and You Are My Glory. If there is angst or darker themes I really don't remember them. I'm sure they have the obligatory 'break-up only to get back together before the final episode' routine but you're never really in any doubt that you're getting a happy ending :D
Good start but only giving this a 6/10. The plot got really ridiculous, especially towards the end and the FL was incredibly bland and annoyingly dumb for most of the series. It just felt like we kept going around in circles as she accused somebody of the murder and then apologized because oopsies she was wrong again. Like if you think about it, remove her from the story entirely and there is a good chance this murder mystery would have been solved anyway...
romcom kdramas need to embrace 8-10 eps format. they never have enough story to last 16 hours.
Yes! Totally agree. By dragging out the episodes it ruins what you liked about the show in the first place. I'm not a huge fan of romcoms but I genuinely enjoyed the first few episodes of Business Proposal. The rest I watched on double speed because the "plot" ended way before the drama ended : (
"one of the greatest actors of the 21st and 22nd century"...James Earl Jones is so good he can time travel :D but hey, in a hundred years time, I'm sure he will still be one of the greats! Good article though <3
I watch both K dramas and C dramas and I have to agree that Chinese historical/costume dramas are a hidden gem if you only watch Korean dramas. In my opinion Korean dramas have far superior contemporary dramas but the Chinese have better historical/costume dramas. Joy of Life, Nirvana in Fire, The Rise of Phoenixes, The Story of Minglan, The Longest Day in Chang'an... *chefs kiss* But again I like both, so I'm not trying to say one is better then the other. I just think they have different strengths, which is a good thing as it means more variety for us drama lovers!
Alchemy of souls and Joy of life and arthadal chronicles, cus I'm waiting for their next season to release
Joy of Life.... I remember my utter confusion as the credits rolled on the last episode and I realized that only the first season had been made. Ok, not ideal but they've already agreed to make the next season. So not the end of the world right, I can wait. Just be patient.... any day now. Any day now. ANY BLOODY DAY NOW!!! GAHHHHHHHH!!!! 😱😱😱
Binge watched the entire thing over the weekend... I shall now spend the rest of the week watching Youtube videos of puppies and laughing babies. Really beautiful drama but I only watched Scarlet Heart Ryeo for the first time before Christmas. No more sageuks for me for awhile :D
I loved this drama! Although I have to admit I almost dropped it after the first two episodes... I thought the characters were kind of annoying and unlikeable. So glad I kept watching though. Easily one of my favorites of 2021 now :D
Omg girl don't talk about his abs. I felt like perving on him was like robbing the cradle cause of pre pubescent…
Hahaha yeah sorry, I'll head back into my cave with the other perverts, cradle robbers and censored BL lovers so. We're not allowed be within 500 feet of "normal" drama watchers anyway :(
Interesting article. Nice to see that not everyone on MDL is on the same hype train... Sometimes I think I'm going crazy when I'm watching a drama with a rating above 8.5 but the show is clearly mediocre at best, and for the most part drawn out and boring as hell. I checked your profile and see you have Joy of Life listed as number 1 in your favorites... Article checks out, you have good taste and know what you're talking about :P
Having said that, I actually loved Move to Heaven. But then I have different standards for Korean dramas than I would say for British or American shows, or even Chinese dramas (my first love). I expect Korean dramas to be drawn out and slow. Because that has been my experience with the majority so far. I'm willing to accept boring and slow paced if I'm moved or captivated by the overall story. Which I was by Move to Heaven. I balled my eyes out pretty much every episode.
Navillera I have yet to watch. But when I do, I'm going into that show with the full expectation of slow paced snooze fest.
The Devil Judge I actually enjoyed. Is it worth it's 8.8 rating? Nope, not even close. I'm a sucker for dark dystopian stuff though and I was totally there for the BL vibes the main leads were giving off. If you have no idea what BL vibes these two straight guys were giving off, well done you, you're clearly not a longtime (frustrated) watcher of censored Chinese dramas :P
Doom at Your Service. Yeah no arguments here. Agree completely. Utter snooze fest and hours of my life I'm never getting back.
Mysterious Love. Oh yeah, complete crap but did you see your man's abs though? If you watched this show for the "story" that's on you really... Personally I just fast forwarded until the ML was shirtless again.
Hot Stove League. Brilliant show! I only finished it a couple of weeks ago. Now there's a Kdrama that isn't slow paced and drawn out. I know nothing about baseball but I loved this drama. Completely agree with the recommendation.
I just came here to vote for Well Intended Love. How in the actual fudge balls did this show ever get on Netflix.
To be fair, I do actually love how bad this show is. It's the kind of show you can put on with a group of friends and just crack up over how bad it is. This drama is freaking hilarious when it's not trying to be. For example (and I guess SPOILER ALERT) somehow the FL manages to get kidnapped 3 separate times within the space of 2 episodes... hahahahaha. Brilliant. Petition to rename this drama to Mostly Unintended Comedy.

Just kidding. Mostly... :P
Thanks for the recommendation!

But yeah, that ML though...
