Hmmm, TBBT is one of my favourite shows so I would definitely want to see how it will turn out if there is a Korean Remake. I think Lee Kwang Soo, Jo Han Chul , Kim Kyung Nam and all three actresses are fine, but I’m not sure about Lee Dong Wook and Park Seo Joon. Like the main point of the show is supposed to be a group of unattractive nerdy guys who have troubles socializing and getting into sexual relationships, and their friendship with Penny happens to drastically change their life and view on the world.

That is what made TBBT special, you have a cast with 4 (later 5) average looking guys who act weird and sometimes downright creepy and pair them with a fun girl who is more street smart than traditionally smart, it created a fascinating contradiction. So by casting the two above in the roles, it’s probably going to take away all the stupid and awkwardly hilarious situations that the guys got into due to their looks and characteristics. Another factor is that one of Leonard’s main issues in the early seasons was his height and insecurity about his looks. Literally a lot of jokes were about how short he is, so it’s going to be pointless to cast Lee Dong Wook who is super tall and handsome (and always looks confident) as Leonard. Park Seo Joon is even more incompatible, Howard is a creepy, horny and borderline disgusting guy who just want to have sex with any girls he met, but all the girls were turned off by his weird behaviours. That’s the joke, and I don’t think Park Seo Joon can do it, it’s just unbelievable that girls will turn down someone who looks like him, even if he acts tries his best to act creepy. And in my opinion, both Lee Dong Wook and Park Seo Joon are not strong in comedy (yes, they are funny at times, but I don’t think they can do actual slapstick, sitcom style comedy).

This is just my personal opinion though, but I believe that the main factor for TBBT to be a success is that it’s actually believable (to an extent). No flashy, extremely attractive people (even Penny has
her own insecurities), which differs in from other shows like Friends or New Girl. Everyone deals with believable and relatable issues, but it was portrayed in over the top, hilarious manners. I find the Korean comedies that I watched tends to switch to dramatic tone halfway through the show and it gave such gloomy vibes (High Kick…), so I am afraid that it will ruin the aesthetic of TBBT. Plus somebody had already said it, there are a lot of culture references in the show, and if remade in Korean, it won’t be the same.
