I don't think I would need a lot of people to witness something like this. I would prefer in private setting, (doesn't have to be indoors) and the person being serious about me and we know each other enough that I could trust them. I understand though, that it was important for them because they were sick of hiding.

I watch both but I'm not sure you can compare it, it has one main gay character and in support roles, there are five main characters who get their time on screen, they interconnect together but everyone has their own story. the acting is top notch, there was a lot of work put into, wardrobe, interior design where noticeable aligned with the characters. the premise is mysterious and metaphysical. it has an amazing soundtrack too, but that comes also down to personal taste. why don't you just try to watch it and you will see if you like it or not. the first episode is a general establishing and than the first episodes after introduce one of the main characters in one episode in the same timeline, that could be confusing at first.
