That bothered me. He left his wife's side on their wedding day to see the girl who was is clearly out to seduce…
Oh so there is that backstory. I did not know that. That puts a new meaning to the whole scenario. But again she does know what to push to get his attention. Cause that pic she sent was definitely not one where people would think she would drown herself, even is she does have that history with her sister.
That pic she send does gives off seductress, and he knows it. He could have easily called the people of the hotel to fish that girl out. But then again where would we have our story, i guess...
Can someone explain why she is even with him? She hasnt gained anything so far besides that interview with him…
I think what she gained from him is that ideal look she wants of what people might see of her -- beside him she looks like the perfect girl. Her image of being the GF/wife of a weathly heir is what sets her apart from everone else at work and in life; and this totally washes and hides what she think is wrong about her life being a neglected child to be pitied.
In all things, this new perception of people of her actually helps her get ahead and get better opportunities. In her work, when she started as a hardworking employee, people tended to depend on for work ethics and relied on her. But when she started her lie of being a daughter of intellectual people really took notice. And then when you add her as being the GF/Wife of the heir, people respected her more.
Then you have those ladies from high society, who she worked hard to get close with. At the start, they saw her as being nouveau rich and even looked down on her -- making the snide comments and looks from her. Thus they tolerated her as for being HM's GF, but had they known she was poor, i doubt they would even glance her way. Even then women she worked hard to get to her show, had they known her true status, they would see her hardwork but would guage it as a desperate way to get her job and see her as an employee. Her image would star as a employee and someone who worked for them, they would not accept them as one of them.
I am not disregarding her hard work, cause she really is brilliant and persistent that it bears fruit. But him being with her stamps her as 'worthy' of her opportunities and her place of respect in other people's thoughts.
This is sad true in life and even in real life. You can see it in the upper echelon of societies. where who you are with, what you wear is what people see. In that part of the world, love is not the main reason to get married, mutual benefits are what are calculated more as you can see in chaebol marriages. And then if you find love someone where on the way, it is the added bonus.
And that is why I think, their marriage XY and HM is mutually benefitial for both of them. He gets to have her trophy wife, and she gets opportunities opened to her.
Haoming could have a sent someone else to the pool to check on “drunk” Fang Lei. 🙄 I love how Xu Yan handled…
That bothered me. He left his wife's side on their wedding day to see the girl who was is clearly out to seduce him. For all his controlled ways, this Fang Lei clearly knows how to push his buttons.
I do love Yanyan's reaction to his actions. It was cold and calculated. XY probably likes him but at this point liking him is just part of her calculations.
Is fl real parents rich? As they leave for foreign to work ? And why they didn't take her with them ? And why…
The ones that meet the ML's parents who are the ones the FL paid to act as her parents. They are acting as parents who are intellectuals aka professors who worked abroad as professors/researchers. Her real parents are still alive living with her sister in their province.
Just saw her on Consort Strategy manuakl.. and for a rookie she is very promising... she was mesmerizing to watch as the good girl and as the villain...
Watched a few episodes and could not get off how bad he was as a husband and how much of a doormat she was as a wife in the past, then at present she acting cool yet still dances around the tune of his cold music. I came here to read reviews to maybe give me hope that he maybe had 1 truck load fo character growth in the story but saw your comment. Ohmygawd, this makes annoyed at the story and also glad I am not gonna waste anymore time on here because I read your (and others on here) review. My sincerest gratitude my dear, Thanks thanks thanks for this.
The funny thing is all the young ladies in the drama are unruly and unladylike. It is a kingdom full of very naughty…
Haha true that. That is the standard of ladylike characters in the drama, so where is her deep seethed drive to make her daughter thus? Her daughter fits right in... In contrast, the young male are all so stoic.
The mother-daughter dynamic was the most prominent aspect of this drama for me , mainly because it was just unreasonable from start to end.
The drama vilified Mom so much. And without giving her a proper background scene to explain how she is so unreasonably 'anti-daughter'. From start to end she had no character growth in her dissatisfaction on her daughter. The drama has snippets of her 'trying' to explain her action but for the most parts her actions are just downright 'evil step-mother' territory.
She considered her daughter unruly and unlady-like and vocally states it to anyone within hearing distance; She also goes on to comparing how less of a daughter she is, to her niece every single freakin time while chucking out punishments. She also Questioning and belittling every single decision FL makes as if treating her like a 5 yr old; and when FL finally became the daughter she wanted, being composed and quiet as FL is now mirroring/resembling the temperament of the empress (who actually became FLs mother in every sense of the word), mother then laments to loss of previous vivacious daughters temperament.
There is no satisfying her. I really wish they showed her backstory on what is her deal. cause her feeling guilt on leaving FL as a baby, her wanting the best for FL (education, life, happiness) just doesn't equate to all the things she did. She is such a 1 dimentional character with the sole purpose of plot development for the FL or used to make ML to shine... which is sad cause she could have been more
I like this drama, but 56 episodes of not much character development other than the FL was a bit too much
Hi, is the novel ending true to the real one (she dies, while pregnant of liver cancer in her 30s)?
Thanks again so much . I think living in this age the indignation we have at their plight is understandable. But in those timesnI can just imagine what a trailblazer DI was for picking a life out of the haream and rejecting the crown prince.
Last question, in the novel. Was the crown prince consprt part of the story cause in this drama basing from casting, they've left her out ..
Hi, is the novel ending true to the real one (she dies, while pregnant of liver cancer in her 30s)?
Thanks so much for this insight on the novel... The more I read on Harem novels, the more I am intrigued and the more I feel so angry/frustrated at what these women had to go through in the past. Though these are the novels I am currently pulled into these days... I think to survive in that environment, one has to be super ruthless and intelligently cruel, and SDI has neither had those characteristics. It feels realistic but very very heartbreaking . I previously thought it was just bittersweet, due to Yisan, but I guess since that was King JoengJo focused, it would would not represent the heartbreak and ruthlessness of harem woman life.
BTW does the novel end with her death? or does it cover or mention of King Jeongjoo's death also? PS. this is a spoiler question, right?
Where I can read the korean and Chinese novels in English can u say me
Too bad. and thank you for the fast reply.. ^_^ I love reading , and Cnovels has been a new discovery. especially the historical/costume ones, though sadly Knovels are harder to find with translations. here is to hoping their would be translations for more knovels...
Where I can read the korean and Chinese novels in English can u say me
I also use that sites for Cnovels and Knovels. but I was unable to see one for this drama. Is there a link specifically for translated The Red Sleeve Cuff novel. I've seen the webtoon they are currently releasing but they only have about 5 chapters available, and it is still in korean. TYIA
is there any chinese drama like this? where genre is rich woman?
Not really the typical Rich woman drama, but maybe: Begin Again - probably fits this trope most among the dramas I will mention below My Story of Us - FL is from a well off family though it is not really emphasized much or a central issue/ also the romance took a backseat versus the ML character development and life journey The Bond - eldest Brother's story but this one is more family centered than romance Forever Love - coming of age drama where the girl is from a well off family while the guy is from a family that struggled due to family business going down. You are MY Glory - Girl is a popular superstar while guy is a normal struggling scientist/aerospace engineer Love Scenery - FL is a superstar while ML is an ordinary citizen though he has great prospects and future Rebel Princess - historical
Honestly if you ask me Junho made a bad choice accepting this drama after looking at what time it'll air. It's…
First wanna give an update on the airing schedule since it was one of the reasons you mentioned. Official broadcast date is Nov5, and this is going to be a Fri-sat drama. it will follow his Chief Kim Frenemy Bro Namgoong Min's drama The Veil (which honestly look so good).
I agree Yisan was such a great drama, it had such a grandeur and aura, And this one will probably be the mild version given that this will follow the novel more and focused more on the FL, since the red sleeve cuff is connected to her wanting to live a life of a court lady rather than the concubine.
As For Junho's acting, I've always been skeptical of idol-actors. and Junho was one of the actors I doubted since his debut in Cold Eyes, then in Memories of the Sword, Twenty, memory, Chief Kim. So again and again, he proved me wrong. And now I have since changed my stance of his acting to "waiting, anticipating,"
if there something to be wary about this drama, I'd probably be the writing. As: Ruler – Master of the Mask had such promising actors, but man that was one forgettable show with such forgettable and bland narrative. And I've also not been impressed by the previous directing of the director. But oh wells, lets just wait and see....
I loooove that show so much. I wish I could rewatch it somehow, but I still have not seen full subbed videos of it.
I so agree with you with the casting, Lee Elijah would be perfect as well as Kim Namgil as leads. And I can see Son Seokoo more as Willy, and Estafania can be played by Song Hayoon...!!!
Her personally dropping the divorce papers herself is gonna be so satifyingly good.
But again she does know what to push to get his attention. Cause that pic she sent was definitely not one where people would think she would drown herself, even is she does have that history with her sister.

It's been a long time since I updated this list.
There are probably more that needs to be added...!

So much 1 dimensional characters.
