Here's my theory, Idk if it's true. I think he lost his physical form and he integrated his spirit on a petal which ZY holds in her hand. Because he kills Xuyao with him in his body, he had to let go of his physical form. He used it as kind of a vessel so that Xuyao can't possess another body. SY must've enchanted the petal before he died, with the last of his breath. But when ZY dies, SY can't appear every season when the white rose blooms anymore–making the 27 years left of their lifetime true, and the theory that they both die together "true". That's why it can be viewed as a HE since as long as she lives, he reappears every blooming season.

I can’t remember the rating when it first started. I think it was 7.9 around week 2 and then it became 8.0. Ppl said it was because of antis. Honestly the rating doesn’t give the drama justice and the recognition it deserves because it’s a tragic, but beautiful love story and the CGI is one of the best of all the other xianxias I’ve watched. Maybe the ending might affect it but it should be higher.

They put her through hell, she lost her whole family, the love of her life in the last episodes. She has 27 years left before she reunites with them 😭. In my opinion, it would’ve been better if she died too with SY. That would’ve been “happier” ending. Star-crossed lovers meant to die together. 💔
I am sobbing as I'm writing this. I watched all the episodes now, and I am so dissatisfied with the ending. Like why couldn't Xuyao die with Yuan? Why tf would SY have to sacrifice himself again. I am pissed. He died like 3-4 times I can't even, I lost count. Even if we had an OE, the main leads had the worst outcome. SY lost DSM, the emperor (even though he sucks, that's still has dad), his mom, now he can't live with ZY only sees her when the snowy rosas bloom (which is maybe like one season). ZY lost her parents because she wanted to help the merfolk, she lost Yuan who was her best friend TWICE, and she lost SY her great love. Why tf did they make the main couple go through tragedy upon tragedy after everything they went through? SY DIDN'T EVEN LAST ONE MONTH ALIVE! But, I am just going to believe that SY came back for good at the last scene. Because if he dies she dies as well, they're spiritually connected so his soul lives on her with her....I'm going to be delulu for this bit. I should've stopped watching after ep 39 my god.
Nonetheless, Xiao Zhan is a fantastic actor, one of the many greats in this craft. He played his role so well. Ren Min is also fantastic in this as well, I was emotionally invested in their story, i wished they didn't suffer so much. I don't regret picking up this drama despite, my opinions it was beautifully done.

PS. Why are ppl mad at ZY for? She didn’t know SuMo is the Sea Emperor, she’s been told by SY that Yuan is the sea emperor, Yuan tells her he is the sea emperor. She doesn’t know how the Dragon jade works so, she can’t connect the dot cuz no one tells her anything. And plus, she thought the dctor would help them, so she wanted to do what’s best for him. How can ZY read SY’s mind?? SY needs to break that master/student barrier CLEARLY for her to realize she is his true love. Because, if you look at it from her perspective, she believes all the sweet moment she and SY have is because he cares about her as his disciple, not anything more or less. But drama loves building angst from miscommunication 💀.

CM doesn’t know ZY at all 😭 the advice he gave was very general. It would’ve been better for SY to ask her for a food tour, or something like intimate with no interruptions, why didn’t he tell her in a space where they could talk freely SMH. And the fact he didn’t clarify that he was buying the jade pendant for her, or that he loves ZY, I just 💀. DSM is SY’s biggest enemy. He actually is sabotaging him, leading SY to have a lot of misunderstandings just for DSM to selfishly use him for revenge.
The novel was ok. The story is interesting and the eng translation was decent. It shows some elements in the trailers. I ended up skipping some chapters LOL. I liked the second volume better IMO. It is true that Zhu Yan is the main focus in the novel (it tells more of her story) but, the drama will shift to Shi Ying if I’m not mistaken. I’m kind of glad because I wanted to learn more about him, and his background. The drama will have differences for sure besides the POV. I think they’ll add more main CP moments. BUT, I would wait for the drama, I kind of regretted reading it because I know what the plot will be (I won’t have the initial shock factor). I couldn’t help myself I was too curious.
