The chemistry between Ayes Haruka & Kimura Takuya was amazing. I also think Ito Hideaki and Nakatani Miki are worth a mention too.
Many may feel this was long & shifted focus toward Oda Nobunaga's rise & fall rather than staying with the funny love/hate story of Oda Nobunaga's and Nohime's marriage because of the way this starts off and I agree partially but, I loved it. I don't claim to know the full true account and history of this story but, although the focus /does/ shift and the tone of the movie goes from being fun to melodrama to very serious with maybe the best character by far (Nohime) being sidelined in the second half of this movie, it was still great. It featured some amazing costumes, film locations (scenery) and performances. I think it could've been a far greater movie had it of focused fully on either the love story or if it decided to be a more factual historic telling of the Warlord Oda Nobunaga's fight to unite the entire country. Trying to take on both kinda watered down what was a very lengthy and heavy story. Again, I still loved it despite its weaknesses and disjointed passage of time. I loved some of the fight scenes although I think they could of played around with Nohime's rivalry and feistiness a lot more as she just owned the screen. Definitely worth a look-see.
This is definitely worth watching. Intense action and pacing once it starts and just knowing Yi Sun Shin was an actual hero and this battle really did take place with incredible odds against him is amazing. Every country has someone who at one time or another, really stood out and stepped up to the mark and changed the course of history and if only part of this movie is based on actual documented facts, he's someone Korea should be very proud of. I definitely recommend this movie.
If Kill Bok Soon ever gets a sequel with writing as good as John Wick 🙏 it'll be awesome! #JeonDoYeon was perfect for this role. I can see this easily getting a much bigger plot. You knew THAT restaurant sequence with her "friends/colleagues" was coming but, you still hoped it would turn out differently 😭 Some great action scenes, especially in the revolving sequence in the kitchen one mentioned above. Great performances too from many of the cast, Esom was not likeable at all which means she nailed the role You kinda felt bad for Seol Kyeong Gu's character too at the end and best of all from the supporting cast imo was Koo Gyo He's and Lee Yeon 😭 Apart from that, at times it was sluggish with not very clear but, fast dialogue that, for me, was a little disjointed and not needed (maybe it was a case of bad translation in parts?). Overall this had some issues with story, dialogue and pace mismatching but, the general feel of the film, acting and action was great. I feel this might get some overly harsh comments, mine too isn't fantastic but, it is very good and worth seeing which is why I'd give it slightly high marks than I'd normally give. 8.5 - Purely for individual performances that show talented character acting and action sequences that not necessarily have the greatest stunts or fighting but, are well conceived and executed.
I don't know if it was just the tone of the film or if it was badly subtitled but, I didn't like this much. I found myself just mind wandering and playing with my phone for half the movie. I didn't care about any of the characters even though I don't think any of the actors did a bad job but, the story just didn't flow that well imo. Can't quite put my finger on why so, I guess for once I can neither recommend or say avoid. It's one of those 50/50 shoulder shrug movies. Not very useful I guess?
Much like the comment below from 10 months ago, the subtitles were very problematic. If translating is not someone's strong suit, I wish people would refrain from uploading them until they can be done well. Same with secondary comment about the central character playing the role comedically and then shifting into melodrama then tragedy. Sometimes this can really throw a spanner into the works and affect the flow. In this case, I'm not sure that was a problem because, otherwise it would have just been a miserable film filled with suffering, sacrifice and political greed which is still true today with politicians. It needed the light comedy relief. I enjoyed this a lot and this movie shifted my opinion of Cha Seung Won greatly. I'm always happy to see Kim In Kwon as he's usually a character that provides the light comic relief (in most of the shows I've chosen to watch that is) but, in this he showed a little range and depth. In short I'd recommend this movie despite its poor subtitles and predictability in the storytelling at times. At its heart, this was about a boy who lost his father at a young age because of a bad map so, he grows up to be one of Joseon's greatest cartographers so others wouldn't die trying to cross the land, he sets out on foot to map the Great Map of the East. Doesn't sound inspiring but, it was well shot at times with some beautiful scenery. Watch it.
I'm in agreement with some of the other opinions about this one.
Yes I'm sure these storylines must become a little bit repetitive to those who have been watching kmovies and dramas their whole lives but, for me who's only been (consistently) watching them since Parasite and Squid Games, I'm loving them!
After watching Hollywood crap my whole life (not counting French, Polish, Japanese and HK cinema), nine times out of ten I'm watching as much Korean drama as possible because, it's like going back in time to when you're simply watching "storytelling" without all the latest trending social and political nonsense being thrown down your throat. These shows are a breath of fresh air.
Getting back to the movie, yes it had issues. For me there was a little too many characters or rather, too much unnecessary time was spent on the supporting cast and not enough Ma Dong Seok just doing his thing. The humour was good but, just that - good. The action was okay but, it wasn't as good as the previous movie which was brutal at times. I'm not saying it needs to be brutal however the fighting, humour and basic plot needs to flow and this kinda felt a little disjointed at times. I really enjoyed the last Roundup movie but, this wasn't as-good in my opinion. That said, I'm SO looking forward to seeing the next one.
This one for me was good, great cast (just too many), good plot (a bit repetitive), good humour (not enough), good action (not brilliant tho), MDS (awesome as usual).
Despite being a tiny bit underwhelmed, I'd definitely still recommend seeing this, especially if (like me), you like seeing MDS punch things lol.
There were parts of this that was so good. It made me look up Shin Hyeon Joon's back catalogue to see what else he had done but, I was sad to see that none were quite like this. He 💯 suited this role and it looks like his talents have been wasted or missed by not casting him in these roles. Not saying his sword skills looked fantastic but, he played the part really well. I hope there will be a sequel seeing as it kinda finished on a cliffhanger. The negatives for me were the supporting cast wasn't as-good as they could've been. Still worth a look-see though. I enjoyed it a lot, mostly for the central characters quirkiness.
Really unsure? I would say yes it is an adaptation of Leon: The Professional because of the similarities from the start. That didn't bother me in the slightest, I just wished it would have stayed true to that story instead of being 50/50. Like I said before I'd still recommend it. Good film, just not as good as Leon (If that is what this was meant to be?).
Wasn't expecting the Hollywood ending to this one, practically brought a lump to my throat. Seoul Kueong Gu and Yeo Jin Goo were just fantastic in this movie and really bounced off each other. There were a few other very familiar faces too but, these two were definitely the stars of the show and equally I might add. The comedy wasn't too much as this movie at its heart was actually quite serious but, when the funny moments happened, they were in good taste and well timed. I'm gonna recommend this to anyone who wants something a little different from the usual gangster or historical love triangle that's a comedy, tragedy, bromance and revenge all-in-one. This had the bromance but, it was just a bit different. Watch it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐+
Some people's comments are very strange? Sure there were funny moments in this film but, that's all they were, moments. This was a dark movie with horrific outcomes for some women so, I wouldn't say describe this as a very funny movie. Also I didn't understand the need for a Rocky style training montage while these girls where being butchered, r*ped and having nasty procedures done to them? There were better ways to move this story forward than that. The humour was fine, it fitted with the central characters but, it was a little misplaced at times. I think it might just be a cultural thing.. that said, I tried to ignore some of the direction and focused on the characters and primarily what the story was about and it was a very good film — Park SEO Joon and Kang Ha Neul bounced off each other really well. Solid performances from both. I'd recommend seeing this but, not as a comedy. I think there's something wrong with anyone who comes away from watching this purely describing it as "one of the funniest movies they've seen". This was dark, gruesome and gritty with light comic relief (which it did need at times to lift the stories subject matter).
Enjoyed this a lot and binge watched this with my wife, loved all the characters. Lee Do Hyeon played this part very well as did Ra Mi Ran who plays his mum. At times, you didn't know if you liked them or loathed them but, these shows have a knack for starting off happy then comes the pain or like my wife says, "it's turned". I'm not sure some people got this from some of the comments? The romance as far as my wife and we're concerned was merely a sub-subplot. Then you had a really touching story of a mother and sons love and a second chance of redemption for both. Finally you had the real story which was a revenge plot that played out really well right to the end. Some of the comedy could have been left on the cutting room floor towards the final few episodes and I might have given his memory back to him a little sooner so, there was a little more grit in the final revenge chapter but, excellent series all round. Highly recommended.
Thought this was pretty good. Nothing wrong with blood and violence if it's in context with the story, which it was. I thought this was going to be a straight up copy of 1994's Leon:The Professional and it totally could have been AND would have been forgiven because, you really connected with the character played by Won Bin and the little girl just like you did in Leon. Unfortunately other than one mention of her saying she didn't steal his milk, him keeping a plant on his windowsill and him dressed in black, that's pretty much all they had in common.
Spoiler alert: He should have had more interaction with the shop owner so, the girl could be seen as though she was going to be taken care of by him. Also, "The Man with No Name should have died at the end after killing everyone and NOT by stupidly taking his own life either but, by protecting the girl till the end.
I guess I just wanted it to Leon after it started off that way. Still — I did enjoy it and I would say it's worth watching. Very good.
Memories Of The Sword has been on my plan-to-watch list for some time, glad I got round to seeing this Goreo Dynasty tragedy. I seriously don't think it's been given enough credit. Sure it's not Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon but, I'm guessing it didn't have that kind of budget? Everyone acted their Goreo socks off imo. A lot better than expected this Kim Go Eun Lee Byeong Heon & Jeon Do Yeon movie with it's wuxia style martial arts is so worth a look-see! My advise: Go in with an open mind and low expectations and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Unless you're like some on here and can only objectify female leads and nitpick script writing holes etc. I'd recommend this as much as any of wuxia movies that inspired this. Loved it! ⭐⭐⭐++ 👍
Sorry but, I dropped this after 24mins into it. I only gave it 1 star purely because of Sean Bean. It was daytime TV acting and directing imo. This would have been far better were it not had been English speaking. It had potential with some okay SFX and what looked like a Destiny 1 ship lol but, no it was a hard pass for me AND I love these kinda movies.
I probably would have loved this way more had I seen it a long time ago but, although fun this felt very dated. I loved the characters, I just didn't like the writing - mostly the dialogue but, some of that could've been down to very poor translation? Glad I finally finished it. Jang Hyuk's Daegil character is one I won't forget in a hurry though.
Didn't want this to end. Loved it from start to finish, I don't think anyone else would have pulled off as-good of a performance as Kim hye soo as the Queen. Absolutely brilliant character portrayal. Totally made me want to watch everything she's in. You would be a fool not to watch this and you'd have no taste in talent if you didn't love it as much as I did.
I'm giving this 8.5⭐ regardless of its very controversial final episode which should of been completely different. Again 8.5 mostly because I really got into ALL the characters especially the main character Yoon Hyun Woo/Jin Do Joo played by Song Joong Ki and the brilliant Lee Seong Min as the Grandfather who played this part with a lot of heart.
Really good series! First watched Yeo Jin Goo in The Moon that Embraces the Sun which was okay. Then again in Hotel del Luna which started well and was really very good (in parts) up to a few episodes near the end. He wasn't particularly that great in that one but, THIS part was played so well. He really stood out and THAT final episode was just (((spoilers))) so so sad but, not . I did take a break just before midway though but, so glad I picked it back up and finished it. Hard recommend!!
Netflix is ruining Kdrama by trying to cash in on their success. shows like this and The Silent Sea seem like they are more aimed at Western audiences and not Korean which is a real shame? I much prefer these dramas to have 100's of moving parts to the plot. This was just SO sluggish and lazy with a sloppy meaningless boring ending imo, it honestly felt like it was a 50 episode series. Good casting and acting but, you dont care about the characters or plot, all you want is for it to end and thats bad considering its only a 6 episode show?
Really loved this. You could see how close they became by the end of the series. Quite insightful and shows how grounded they ALL are, even those who have made mistakes like everyone has. Definitely worth watching!
