Expected nothing. Got everything and a 5 months ongoing addiction
Where do I even begin? This was my introduction to an incredible BL journey, and what a ride it was!
I was bored and craving a live-action romance (since I usually only read straight romance or BL in manhwa) and decided to check out the Thai industry since they seem to produce a lot of content. When I looked up “the best ones,” KinnPorsche kept popping up alongside a few others, but its title stood out to me, it sounded odd… and wow, what a surprise I was in for!
I went in with low expectations. Before this, I had only seen one Thai drama, and it was a thriller, not a romance. Plus, I’d heard all the common criticisms about Thai BLs: awkward kiss scenes, low budgets, straight actors struggling to portray gay relationships, and even real-life homophobia from some of them. KinnPorsche shattered all those stereotypes (minus Build, but we’ll get to that). The action was top-tier, the cast felt fresh and incredibly talented, the story gripped me until the very end, and the chemistry? Absolutely off the charts. It was an amazing experience from start to finish.
The Story
I know KinnPorsche has its fair share of criticism, especially regarding the plot, but I genuinely enjoyed it.
At its core, we follow Porsche, a 23-year-old bartender who’s sacrificed everything to provide for his younger brother. Then there’s Kinn, the heir to a powerful mafia family, doing, well… mafia things. Their paths cross, and before Porsche knows it, he’s dragged into Kinn’s world as his bodyguard. What follows is a chaotic, intense, and deeply emotional journey where they learn about each other, their own feelings, and the dangerous world they’re entangled in.
Episodes 1-8 build up their relationship: physical, sexual, and emotional tension simmers as they navigate their attraction, clashing personalities, and work dynamics. They fight, make peace, love, get jealous, lie… It’s a rollercoaster. And honestly, if someone couldn’t handle their dynamic by this point, why suffer through six more episodes? The core of their relationship was already well established early on.
Episodes 9-14 shift focus to mafia politics, family drama, power struggles, and betrayals, things that are, let’s be real, extremely on-brand for an actual mafia setting. I’ve seen complaints that the family drama was unrealistic, but this is literally what happens in crime organizations: backstabbing, shifting alliances, and power plays.
As much as I adore KinnPorsche, I have to give credit to the side couples as well. The show had something for everyone, if you liked intense, layered romance, you had KinnPorsche. If you preferred something softer and more innocent, there was KimChay (and their breakup was so well done, I rarely see good breakups in fiction). And for those into, uh, BDSM-adjacent dynamics (not my thing, but I get it), VegasPete had you covered. Their emotional chemistry was undeniable, and despite my initial skepticism, I lowkey ended up rooting for them too.
Overall, KinnPorsche was the perfect mix of action, comedy, and romance. Some people complained that there was “too much romance and not enough action,” but I came for the romance, and I was served. No complaints from me.
Oh, and the sex scenes?! I never thought I’d say this, but they were so well done. They weren’t just thrown in for the sake of having mature content, they actually told a story. Every intimate scene revealed something about the characters, their emotions, their power dynamics… It was brilliant. I genuinely respected how they handled it.
Acting & Casting
Nothing to say except: flawless.
I made the mistake of starting my Thai BL journey with KinnPorsche, because now my standards are through the roof. The cast truly became their characters. You could tell they poured themselves into their roles, bringing out a raw, authentic energy that made every scene feel alive.
Apo (Porsche) especially blew me away. His little mannerisms in the first episodes? The way he played frustration and drunkenness so naturally, like it wasn’t just “acting” but something that felt uniquely his? Chef’s kiss. Every reaction, every bit of body language felt so personal to Porsche as a character.
And the chemistry? Incredible. Romantic, platonic, everything clicked. Porsche and Kinn? Perfection. Porsche and Pete? Amazing friendship. Arm and Pol? Hilarious and heartwarming. Even the weakest link for me, KimChay, was still better than a lot of BL pairings I’ve seen since.
What made this chemistry even more enjoyable was seeing how well the actors got along in real life. Their genuine friendships translated beautifully on screen, making their interactions feel all the more believable. Also, I loved the diversity in their looks: compared to the usual polished, uniform “K-drama visuals,” this cast felt fresh and varied in the best way.
The only black mark? Build. But I won’t let one person ruin the rest of an amazing cast.
Music
I don’t usually pay attention to soundtracks in shows, but KinnPorsche had bangers.
That piano version of Free Fall in episode 4? Haunting. Still on my playlist to this day. The intense background tracks, the goofy mafia themes, and the OSTs, everything was so well chosen. And of course, Jeff Satur delivered.
Easily a 10/10 for the music.
Rewatchability
Through the roof.
I love how I can rewatch specific arcs depending on my mood, if I want angst, I have episodes for that. If I want action, there are other episodes. Cute moments? Got them too. No other BL I’ve seen since has matched this level of variety.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
• Incredible acting
• Refreshing and dynamic atmosphere: I love shows with strong vibes, and KinnPorsche had personality
• Morally grey characters: I wasn’t looking for a moral lesson, and I love how even the “good” ones were still deeply flawed
• Beautiful cinematography: I don’t know much about filmmaking, but I love visually striking shows, and this one delivered
• Unmatched chemistry: romantic and platonic alike
• PORSCHE. Enough said.
Cons (for others, not me):
• Sensitive topics: I get why some people were uncomfortable, especially with certain scenes, but the dark themes fit the world of the show
• Lack of character depth (for some): Personally, I think we got all the info we needed, but I understand why others wanted more
• Non-linear plot: I actually liked the twists and reveals, but a more structured storyline could have worked better for some viewers
• BOC drama: Nothing to do with the show itself, but it’s a shame how things played out behind the scenes
Final Thoughts
KinnPorsche was far from perfect, but for me, it was perfectly imperfect. The flaws somehow made it more enjoyable, I can’t even explain why. People could point out plot holes or inconsistencies, and my only response would be: “He kinda forgot” (shoutout to the Game of Thrones producers for that iconic line).
This show wasn’t just fun, it was an experience. Few series have left me with this kind of high-energy enjoyment, and for that, KinnPorsche remains one of a kind.
