The class difference is way too huge and uncomfortable for her. Her friends wouldn't treat her the same on the outside, but with certain manners and this is why she declined. Than later, she declined because the queen had not conceived yet, and she was afraid to birth an heir, because heirs from concubines were frowned upon (this was not mentioned in the drama, only book and her diary).
I love historical dramas and this one just owns my heart, but there is one thing that bothers me about how history worked - the freaking polygamy.
