I know that a LOT of people think that Chen Yu will cheat on main lead with Qing Yan, but I think that he won't since come on - he knows that Qing Yan is a freaking killer who tried to kill main lead multiple times. Well, yeah u are right, in Secret Garden the main lead if i'm not wrong read The little mermaid but honestly, I never really felt the connection between that plot and the book. Yes, there are tons of dramas where main lead reads a book but for real I think this drama was based on from scratch from the book :)
