I think Naomi said that because he always felt the feelings between them were wrong- this was why he never progressed to gentle touch and even broke arm of the guy he liked. Yanase had realized the feelings and didn't want to just wrestle anymore. there is a lot of lack of clarity and "drama" in the last 1/3 of movie that felt out of step with the first 2/3s- but well executed. We never see how long Naomi is in jail- the "I can't see you go bald" implied he would be in jail a long time- (robbery? Contributing to serious injury of person he robbed?) but one of the inconsistencies is- when he gets out- both leads look the same . The dad doesn't reappear and there is no closure of their arc. Feels like a well done art film post grad project.
