Why I believe Soo Young and Kyung Pil had sex in that hotel room.

There is no doubt in my mind that Soo Young asked Kyung Pil to go to that hotel with her to have sex. For what other reason would they go there? For that fake sex phone call we saw played out on scene? If so, would someone please tell me , WTF was in that scene that necessitated them going to a hotel room? Absolutely nothing! I mean it was nothing more than a fragmented 30 minute or so scene with some dialogue either side of a phone call. There was no violence. No one was screaming and shouting and throwing stuff around. They weren’t even mimicking over the phone the sounds of an amorous couple in the throes of lovemaking. And as no mention is ever made as to where they are, they could just as easily have gone to some quiet late night bar or cafe, (like the one where Soo Young pulled her ‘Lying Game’ stunt on Sang Soo), and achieved the same result.

But why might you ask, would Soo Young even contemplate having sex with Kyung Pil? And to what end? It doesn’t make any sense. Well it does if you know the reason why. But, I can tell you, it’s not because she has any romantic feelings for Kyung Pil. He just happens to know what Soo Young plans are and is simply going along for the ride, so to speak. So, how did all this come about?

Well, if you remember on the day in question, Soo Young had taken the day off. Sang Soo tracks her down at the beach where they spend some time together talking about sandcastles, amongst other things, until Soo Young pulls another disappearing trick on him.

Later, after visiting her father, something triggers her to call Kyung Pil late at night to ask if he can meet her right now. He soon arrives and the next time we see them, they’re already in the hotel room. To make sense of this, we need to go back a bit to when Kyung Pil told Soo Young that when he was in college, he had a girlfriend whose parents, unbeknown to the girl, decided he was not good enough to marry into their family. In fact, he had already been warned off by the uncle 3 times to end the relationship. (At this point, Kyung Pil hasn’t said he’s taking about Mi Kyung). Kyung Pil then decided to end the romance, but not before shagging Mi Kyung’s best friend behind her back. For, as he told Soo Young; it was the ultimate betrayal. It have him an ending that was irrevocable and the closure he needed to move on — shoving it up their arse you might say. And that’s exactly what motivated Soo Young to call Kyung Pil and ask him to meet her and then go to the hotel. Because Soo Young also wants closure — total closure and an irrevocable ending to the soul-destroying situation she finds herself in, and from which she is determined to escape from, and to which she can never come back to. However, that’s not possible until she frees herself from all relationship before she leaves Seoul. And the start of that process begins in that hotel with Kyung Pil.

But if they did have sex, when did it happen? As they’re already in the hotel room when the scene begins, and we have no idea how long they’ve been in there, I have every reason to believe their moment of sexual passion has already occurred and they are now just waiting for Jong Hyun’s phone call. This is confirmed by the dialogue between Soo Young and Kyung Pil that takes place after she switches her phone off without speaking to Jong Hyun.
