The mini explanation:
Zhu Yi, the author of Hidden Love, and her agency Jinjiang Literature City claim that Wajijiwa has the right to produce a full-length web drama based on the novel only.
A new web miniseries titled Hidden Love for You suddenly appeared, triggering concerns.
Jinjiang Literature City + Zhu Yi released a statement saying:
They never authorized a web miniseries version.
Their agreement with Wajijiwa explicitly forbids re-adaptation into a miniseries or similar.
The new miniseries might be a contract violation and copyright infringement.
Wajijiwa Responds:
Wajijiwa says they do have rights to adapt Hidden Love under a 2019 agreement and 2024 supplement.
They interpret the term "web series" (网络剧) in the contract to include all serialized online content—including miniseries.
So, from their view, Hidden Love for You is not a breach but just a different form of the same license.
📌How the Contract Was Exploited:
The loophole lies in the definition of “web series” in the contract:
Jinjiang & Zhu Yi’s stance:“Web drama” = full-length series only.
Wajijiwa producing a short-form mini is a breach of that clause.
⚠️ On July 3rd the two companies involved released statements again:
The statement announces that Wajijiwa, Jinjiang Literature City, and author Zhu Yi have resolved their dispute over the unauthorized adaptation of Hidden Love: Only for You. Wajijiwa apologized for the oversight and agreed to permanently take down the miniseries as of July 3, 2025, promising to prevent similar issues in the future.
