John-this is, indeed, a gem. I'm only about 1/3 of the way through the episodes (I started watching this on Netflix…
You are a dear, thank YOU, John. The Jiang family just about mirrored my Dad's parents and he and his sibling's upbringing....same time period, background, family experiences...everything, just half a world away...who'd have thought? Watching this has brought my beloved grandparents and Dad back to me, even if for just a few days....what a blessing and treat it has been and I'm so thankful....but sad that it's over...:-(....

Just finished this series, and don't have the words to describe how much it touched me. Maybe it's because Jiang Defu and An Jie & family lived a life that, except for some political and cultural differences, pretty much mirrored that of my beloved grandparents and their 6 children (one of whom was my Dad). There were so many characters that I adored: Ding's wife Wang Xui'e, Auntie Dehua, feisty Yafei, even the German Shepherd "Anti-Imperialist" lol!! I could go on and on! This program made me laugh and it made me cry. A Must-See for all you sentimental softies like me!

John-this is, indeed, a gem. I'm only about 1/3 of the way through the episodes (I started watching this on Netflix a couple nights ago), but am also already dreading the end. I've always been a sentimental softie, and getting more so as I get older, so finding this series has been a treat! Thank you for your comments, they echo my thoughts exactly!
