I think for those who do not know Chinese or is half-baked on it (like me..LOL), we miss A LOT of subtle references…
It’s nice to read a different comment like yours. Your point of view on this drama is noteworthy. How you pointed out the subtleness of ZSC etc. A lot might have missed that out or concentrated more on the main leads intimacy.
The bedside scene at the hospital where ZSC said, “I never left. I’m always here for you. You can always see me at any time you want.”, was so heart breaking. Ohh my heart!

I don’t have any problem with the less kissing scenes but more on how the writer rewrote the character of ZSC. She should had retained more of ancient ZSC to modern ZSC. From OaO and the novel, ZSC has this immense personality or aura but is totally absent in the modern setting. She made his character very timid.
Also the scenes after Wushan, I don’t get the writer and the director here.. it made my eyes roll. Gosh! We are on the 21st century already, even though ChenShi are both conservative , sleeping separately after consummating your marriage is just nonsensical!
Bai Lu and Allen Ren’s chemistry is insane. On and off cam. If AR is single, I am sure, most of us will be crazily shipping ChenShi couple in real life. 😜
This was my most anticipated drama to watch ever since they announced it last year. I read the novel 3-4 times…
I feel you. I was also bit disappointed with ZSC’s character here. Maybe because I am used with his character in OaO who is fully confident.... manly. I was innerly criticizing the director here 😅. Like you, I’ve also read the novel, just before the start of Forever and Ever, and also rewatched and still rewatching the previous episodes and come to love ZSC and SY even more. I just looove Uncle Lin. He is a breath of fresh air.
