This drama is a 10/10 for me. Just when I was about to give up on watching C-dramas with high ratings on MDL, I came across this one and to my surprise, it turned out to be one of the best C-dramas I’ve watched in recent years.
The story is engaging and fast-paced with strong leads, solid logic and almost no flaws. I really appreciate the relationship between the leads, even though I’m not particularly into overly sweet romance. As long as the plot and acting keep me invested without making me want to fast-forward, that’s enough for me and this drama absolutely delivers.
The supporting characters are not just there to fill gaps, each of them has a purpose and well-explained motivations behind their actions. The drama takes its time to build the story, and just when I think I’ve reached a major turning point, it manages to surprise me again.
I can only say “wow” to the actors, director, and scriptwriter. Even the costumes are perfectly suited to the story. The acting is so immersive that I feel like I’m stepping into their world while watching.
I understand that everyone has their own preferences. However, I’ve noticed that many highly rated C-dramas focus heavily on romance, while those that prioritize storytelling often receive lower ratings. Some viewers complain about the lack of romantic focus but that’s exactly what makes this drama stand out, it tells a meaningful story where every character has depth and logical development rather than relying only on steamy kiss or bath scenes. I don’t have any problem with those kinds of scenes but I do wish more dramas would balance them with stronger logic and more powerful storytelling.
Recently, I watched a very popular C-drama that everyone seemed to be crazy about, as if it were one of a kind in recent years. However, I ended up feeling extremely disappointed. It seemed like people praised it mainly because the leads were good-looking while overlooking major plot holes. It made me feel like I might stop watching C-dramas altogether if this is the kind of content that becomes popular, stories that feel more like extended music videos rather than well-written narratives. I almost lost hope in watching C-dramas.
As someone who has grown up watching C-dramas, I can’t help but feel this way about many recent productions. Still, I’m glad that dramas like Fated Hearts exist, they remind me of how good this genre can truly be. Lastly, if you’re looking for intense romance and steamy kiss scenes and don’t care much about the story, this drama may not be for you. But if you appreciate strong storytelling, good directing and a mature relationship then this is definitely worth checking out.
