As soon as The Lament of Autumn started I was wondering why this story resonates so deeply in me? And I saw a clear connection with one of my all time favorite movie: Lust Caution.
Both stories are about a complicated relationship between a young woman, anti-imperialist, involved in theater and strong-minded; and on the other a cold soldier that has seen his share of horrors. Those two fight conflicting emotions, desire, repulsion, threat, fear. Their paths intertwined but differences values made them undeniably doomed. Those stories show the determination of young Chineses to fight power and oppose the system.

When 2 Korean men based in Japan meet Japanese women. Curiosity, Misunderstanding , language barrier…all in one mix

Both dramas are about a career women who are very dedicated to her job and willing to act accordingly to east-Asian traditions and be a good and respectful daughter. But the return or the meeting of a young man, new challenges at work change the pre-established trajectory. Are they going to break free from social pressure and embrace the new path that is right in front of them or reject feelings in order to comply to family?

Korea Khitan War was the previous historical drama made by KBS about war time in 2023. It covered a famous war during Goryeo that Goryeo lost to Khitans.
Sword & Silence covers also a Korean War time but during 3 Kingdom era.
Nowadays Korean sageuks are shorter than they used to 10 years ago, those 2 dramas are 32 and 28 episodes, from the same channel and aired at the same weekly time slot.

Two period dramas taking place during Korean 3 kingdom era. Hwarang covering a prior time at Silla kingdom. The Hwarangs were sillian soldiers trained for all the battles that opposed these 3 kingdoms that ended reunited to create Goryeo.

Those two dramas cover the same historical figures Queen SeonDeok, King MunMu of Silla, Kim Ch’unCh’u, Kim MunHui…famous characters during Korean 3 kingdom era.
Those two stories are connected as they follow each other within Korean early history. And cover some battles between them.
Great Queen Seondeok focused on the throne accession of Princess Seon Deok.
Sword & Silence is dedicated to King Munmu of Silla which is Kim Ch’inCh’u and Queen Munmyeong’s son and it seems like (drama isn’t aired yet) up to unification to create Goryeo. Ch’inCh’u was one the characters we can discover during his early years mid-way in the Great Queen Seondeok, a young Prince that was willing to take over the Silla throne after his Grandfather.
Both dramas are heavy on battles and politics.
One is a MBC old classics centered around Queen Seondeok access to the throne and opposition with the unfamous Misil, the other is a new take where the male characters have the centered stage.

In those 2 dramas two strangers entered in a relationship with a push from the male lead’s grandpa.
Each couple had to overcome the initial none attraction and then their share of obstacles to make famiky accept the relationship.
About 1% is an older drama but one of the classics Im Korean entertainment.

Both thrillers deal with a married couple wanted to get out of it. The course of events made them fight to save each other and the relationship. Both dramas have good premises but lack in the execution and unwrapping

For anyone who has an interest for Sado and Lee San that drama special is interesting as it covers a short period of teenager Lee San investigating his father’s story (Prince Sado). The 2007 Lee San is an epic journey covering his whole life with all the Palace intrigues and plottings.

On one side we have a fiction and another side s story that is a mix between historical events and fiction during Joseon. Rookie Historian seems to have been inspired by Lee San’s story as we know that this Prince had to fight for years to unveil the true about the unfair death of his father (Prince Sado) and was autraciyzed in the Palace for being the son of a traitor. In Lee San the Prince gets support by the painters bureau in Rookie Historian from the historians. Both had to be present in every event around the Palace to make records.
Rookie historian strongly advocates for equal opportunity for women and men, Lee San did it a little bit. Both are beautiful period pieces

Here the drama have in common a man that used to be in the mafia and fall in love with a woman Im he should not.
Both men are discovering love and it impacts their lives.
Sticky love is more a comedy when man falls in love is a melodrama.

2 dramas that tell the story of a couple that encounter again after years of separation.
In both story the female lead is now a mother. Both story set place in restaurants/ food industry.
