Suho's acting is great and the kick-ass, rebellious FL is refreshing, but the title and MDL's description are misleading, which probably accounts for the undeserved low rating. The Crown Prince is missing for maybe 6 eps, the show is a full on palace drama and the romance that drives the plot is not the love affair of the leads but the villains. No surprise that the OST is great as well!
I take it back. WZ should just forget everyone and focus on his original goal. This is so frustrating. JC met…
Agree 💯. Disappointing that the writers didn't give JC enough insight to figure out that WZ had plans larger than rescuing her every time she lands in trouble. Or to question her own trust in her master who hid the truth about her identity from her.
EP 10:The sword dance was heartbreaking. Amazing acting by Allen Ren, just like the rest of the episode. I'm loving…
Agree with you 100% on the acting of Allen Ren and Landy Li in ep 10. I didn't rate AR much before this drama, now I'm a fan. LL's career will take flight after this drama.
Gotta say I'm surprised I'm still watching even though I like JLH and JT. The number of times I've wondered who wrote that nonsense line? where was the director in this scene? or did anyone edit this show? but I'm still watching and (mostly) enjoying the drama. It says a lot about how a strong CP can hold audience attention.
This is the best modern romance drama of the year for me. The acting of both leads was all I hoped for; XK shines are the determined but reticent pursuer and ST's spirited independence made their eventual coming together as a couple very sweet. Despite the filler scenes that others have commented on, the writing was strong enough to make me invested in seeing them overcome obstacles that rivals and enemies put in the way of their romance and their business success. I even liked the 'female friends' side plot, as each woman was distinct and smart and their lovelines reflected their personalities. So ST's styling wasn't great? Neither was XK's and he's a stylist's dream. Whoever was responsible for costumes and wardrobe was seriously below par.
I can't believe the number of negative reviews and low scores. Why spend so much time and so many words on a drama you disliked? This may be another undesirable effect of Netflix, which usually plays to the large audience for easy to watch or 'idol' driven kdramas. Anything more complicated just seems to upset or annoy them.
SYZ was a jerk from the start, but he was charming and powerless, therefore harmless. Becoming emperor empowered him to indulge his narcissistic desires and lack of moral compass. The drama was consistent in showing the stages of his deterioration, but it failed to give true retribution to Mai, whose courage and commitment to seeking justice for her murdered family, and loyalty to her people was unwavering. Her failure to see SYZ’s worthlessness was her fatal flaw; it’s hugely disappointing that the drama did not give such a brave, accomplished, kickass woman the justice and happiness she deserved. If there’s a more positive alternative ending, then let’s see it.
