The novel is completely different, the series mixes up the chronology, plots and even the situation of some characters.…
I know they can't compress 800+ chapter to 40 episode drama, so it would have been better to release it parts. Also they have changed the nature of the characters, the grandmother is completely different from the novel.
The series has completely fucked up the novel. I can't believe what the screenwriter and the director were thinking while using the characters from the novel...
The start is similar to Gone with the wind but the end I think will be more closer to The great Gatsby. Why ? Well, if you look carefully after the initial meeting and greeting, the male lead is constantly trying to reach towards the female lead. He helps her in ways thinking her mind will change completely in his favour but she more or less follows the traditional path.
If you have seen or read Gatsby you might observe the similarities like : 1. He tries to reach towards her at the end of episode 2, similar to gatsby's green light at the dock. 2. Similar to Gatsby his originals unknown. 3. Buys stuff just to over compensate for the lack of close affection; and so on...
This leads to believe that : 1. FL will marry the military guy. 2. ML will try to woo her; but I don't think ghey will show affair. Yes he can have something going on with SFL in time. 3. The military guy will not leave ML alive once he understand that FL loves ML. He will use all his power to get rid of ML; quite similar to Daisy husband killing Gatsby using a sidekick. 4. Also things ML did things like catching the slaves which will pit him against the court and king. 5. FL may try to save the ML but it will not work.
So the main question is ending....
Gatsbys ending cannot satisfy this series, FL will not vanish especially after she hears about the island incident where ML protected her.
But one thing is for sure, that a happy ending is quiet improbable. And if it gets one, the forget the above crap and enjoy by rewatching.
I think the story narrated by Ryang Eum while leaving for Qing must be taken into context for the 10 episode. The woman who remember her lover while caring for her ailing husband.
