I think it makes sense. The first several episodes focused more on the attorney side of WYW with intriguing cases challenging both her morality, knowledge and adaptability. But given that we're following the entire life of the character, in the past few episodes, the cases have relatively taken a step back to explore her love life.
What I really liked about yesterday's episode is that they didn't show a ruling in the court and just simply faded to black. It is clear that what the defendant did was wrong howsoever pure his intentions may seem, and the writer left it to the audience to decide what must happen to him. The writing has been extremely on point, and I do hope that all the arcs are satisfactorily tied up by the time the show ends.
