Oh, I think AI is amazing. It's just that if a 美籍华人 like me can spot these common errors in translation, I'd think they could've had a human look over the subtitling.

This is quite good. A word of warning though….if you are not familiar with Chinese cultural language idioms…
I don't know, I'm only conversationally fluent in Mandarin, but I found the subtitling to range from adequate to terrible. It seemed especially bad when there would be only one word or maybe two. For example, I remember one scene where Li Tang says "打" and the subtitle translated it to "hit," which would be correct out of context. Except the conversation was about whether to make a phone call, in which case "打" should translate to call (as in 打电话). That's just one example of numerous. It left me with the feeling that the subtitling was done by AI.
On Designated Survivor: 60 Days Feb 9, 2025
I watched the first two seasons of the original American version, but I much prefer this one. For one thing, I kept hoping Kiefer Sutherland (as the designated survivor) would channel his inner Jack Bauer, which never happened despite a few Bauer-like growls. Also, I've generally found Maggie Q (who played the counterterrorism agent Han role) to be wooden on screen. Freed of those two distractions with this version, I was able to enjoy it fully.

I found this on Amazon Prime and watched about half of it (my treadmill time). Then I realized that I had put the original series on my Netflix watchlist. Having started the movie, I went ahead and finished it, but now I wish I had watched the series instead.

How much of this movie is in Mandarin? I ask because I've been watching Chinese movies/shows to improve my Mandarin.

The weirdest part of this show for me was seeing Liu Yujin playing the lead police detective. I'm used to seeing him as antagonists ("Age of Legends") or sleaze bags ("Love Me If You Dare").

The rave reviews I read here about this series pushed me to go watch it, but I admit that I did not have the same…
Some suggestions: "Love Me If You Dare," "Head Above Water," "Age of Legends," "The Dance of the Storm," "Inference Notes"

Title So Close
Not only was this a fun movie to watch, it kicked off my Covid-era effort to improve my grasp of Mandarin by watching Chinese action/mystery movies and TV shows. The streaming version of "So Close" that I found on Amazon was in Cantonese, so I tracked down the DVD and watched it again with the Mandarin language track.
