Nyang truly loved Togon/ Ta-hwan more than anyone else even right from the start of the series. Already right…
I started to watch series without any judgement and I've never have seen any of the actors anywhere before. I really liked the amazing love mystery in the show. And how the writers/ script kept us viewers never fully knowing Nyangs feelings and thoughts until the very end.

And I honestly think this show would have been even more awesome if they would have focused a little bit more on Nyangs feelings and her love part. Then some of the over the top, ridiculous and weird things in the show like dragging out the black magic parts way too much.

I really do thank you for reading and understanding my thoughts on the characters portrayal. And thanx for knowing I was 100% fair and that I judged all of them only by their actions and nothing else.

Thank u so much for your appreciation :) ;) :)

I'm surprised that many people don't seem to understand the real relationship between 3 main characters.…
I honestly truly wanted to like king of Goreyo more than the emperor of Yuan, but Wang Yu was way too much of a jerk towards Nyang. At first I thought he was more stable minded, also ruggishly handsome and so much more manly than the fearful, weak and powerless emperor. But I could no longer root for him when he started to pressure a pityful, doubtful, brokenhearted and unsure woman into a somewhat unwanted engagement and pregnancy.

Well I don't really know of that actor and Empress Ki was the very first show I've ever seen him in. And I propably never seen none of all the other memorable actors and actresses before watching Empress Ki. Except for only Batulla (don't really know the actress real name) but I've seen her once b4 in drama series "Oh my Venus". But even If I knew previously any or even all of the other ones. I would still have tried to judge only the shows characters portrayals. And not the actual actors and or their previous works and what not. And I absolutly don't think about how "popular" they may or may not be among some other people. I usually don't prefer mainstream if there's anything better and more unique/ special thing out there.

Yeah you did accuse me of "being rude" just for asking you legit question if you might have a reading disability. Since most ppl can read a (book sized) page in less than 5 minutes time. Anyhow ur a difficult, contradicting and confusing person to understand and so I'm thankful u decided not to continue this discussion.

Well I was just wondering and trying to understand. Why you or anyone for that matter would ever read something half-ass? And then still wanna whole-heartedly pose questions and try to discuss the full subject. It just doesn't make any sense to me at all and so I was just asking u what that reason could be? I never said there's something wrong with having a learning/ reading disability. So please don't ever try to accuse me of "being rude"! Truthfully if u can't be bothered to read anything than just stay consistent and don't even bother to comment on it either. Honestly that's just more common sense.

Well the series love story part was complex to understand and it contained a level of mystery until the very last scene & very last episode. And probably no person could guess Nyang's heart and secret love until the very end with the final piece of the puzzle. Therefore it was rather deep and complex. But that's only for the ppl who truly understood in the end. I must say it's rather strange that u can't read only 20 or so lines of words. How do you ever manage reading anything at all? Is it because of a learning disability or something? I myself am not used to english language. Since it's not my mother tounge and I very rarely write or speak it. But I still try to manage somehow and just try get through the difficulties of communicating in a 3rd language.

Yeah she was pushing him away in the beginning because she was surprised that he was drunk, angry, somewhat aggressive and way too emotional all at once. And he actually did ease up a couple of times when she turned her face away from him. But she didn't refuse him in the end and she def. was not raped by him. It was just some weird hard to comprehend shit between them two and uncomfortable for us viewers & outsiders to watch.

They had their own issues they were trying to work out between themselves. And they didn't really succed to do so that time (hence the morning day after scene). Yet again it had to do with Nyang not sharing her true thoughts with him. And he just wanted her to open her heart a bit to him and reasure him a little more. In the scenes before you can see evil enemies were trying to destroy and poison their relationship, mind and bodies. Well atleast the emperors mind and body was poisoned weekly or maybe even daily.

It's a bit contradicting for you to say that ur not going to read long answers but still want to ask questions. Not everything can be talked/ written about shortly every single time. Empress Ki was over 51 hours long and therefore it's impossible to cover all basics in just a few sentences. Maybe you should refrain from discussing long or deep subjects if reading about it bothers u that much?

Yeah thanks for the discussion. I truly felt the drama series left such a strong impression after finishing it just recently. And that's when I came here to find out everyone else's thoughts. But honestly I'm not the least biased towards the emperor. I just accept Nyang's character love for him and the characters freewill with regards to her own heart. I wouldn't personally recommend someone like the emperors personlity to either her or anyone else for that matter. And advise against the selfish Wang Yu character even more than the weak emperor. I probably would only rate Taltal the highest, that is if he truly would be just as good romantic partner/ lover as he (later on became) a humanbeing.

The reason I dislike Wang Yu so much is that he knew Nyang didn't love him back the way he wanted to. But yet he selfishly made her life that much sorrowful, harder and complex. He pressured her into engagement while she was still suffering from trauma of the death of her father and heartbreak by the emperor's actions. And Wang Yu then got her pregnant in a another country and allowed her to stay behind while he just left for Goreyo. It wasn't only el-Temur family and their minions that made Nyang's life that much more complicated. Don't get me wrong she was really stupid too for putting herself in that situation. But he was the one that emotionally pressured her into that pregnancy. So the blame of Maha's pityful pregnancy was a little bit more on him than on her.

The worst part of it all is that he really early on knew she didn't love him like that. Yet he selfishly continued to fight for her (or actually more like pressure her to death). And then gave up much later than he actually should have. Because he could have given up right from the start. Since his jealous ass already knew she liked Ta-hwan more. Instead of acting all jealous and bothering Nyang with his personal love issues. Even if all life is sacred and nobody deserves to die. But I kinda felt less sorry for Wang Yu everytime I thought back on the parts he played in Nyangs and Maha's pityful suffering. Only good thing he managed in that complete messy situation was that he didn't want her to suffer anymore and tried to hide Maha's death from her.

I personally think it was wrong of emperor to kill Wang Yu and his friends. But I do understand his point of view. Simply because he didn't knew any of them like that and neither trust them one bit either. Therefore he couldn't trust Nyang's life (a woman that is his beloved wife and mother of his child) in any of their's hands. And so he didn't see any other way out than to kill them for her sake. Their mere excistence and also knowledge about the very deadly secret of Maha could cause empress Ki's total destruction. If just one wrong person found out about the truth of her and Wang Yu. Just like when court Lady Soh overheard Bang and them. All of that disaster was also another huge mess created by selfish Wang Yu because he didn't give up trying for Nyang's love much earlier than he did. He should have given up pre engagement, pregnancy and all.

After Wang Yu's death. Nyang told the emperor she had something she wanted to tell him when they were old and grey. That something was shown in the very last scene showing the horses on beach. The very thing she wanted to tell him was how she chose Ta-hwan (over Wang Yu and any other man) right there on the beach really early on (in ep. 4). At the end of series she started to tell him the hidden feelings in her heart. But he died right before she could finish and she only got the chance to tell him "you have no idea how much I truly love u". And that's what the very last scene of them 3 and the horses on the beach symbalize. The choice she made very long time ago and that her 1st choice was always Ta-hwan even when he had absolutly nothing to offer her. Not like how Tanquishi said to him "ur not her first choice". Or how Golta the eunuck said "do you think Nyang would love u/ be with u if u had nothing and u weren't the emperor?" All of this (word for word) is most likely what Nyang was gonna explain to the emperor. Everything she had hidden in her heart because she didn't knew if she dared to reveal her true feelings too early. Since she was anyway a guarded person from her childhood trauma and already once being betrayed by Ta-hwan when her father died. That's the reason she wanted wait until they were old and grey and was no time left for him to betray her. And "her biggest fear of him being done with her" couldn't happen anymore. As strong person as she was only the emperors love made her feel weak and was the one & only thing she feared loosing the most.

And that's how much she loved him!

That's another thing ppl seemed to have missunderstood. The emperor never raped her because they were having som kind of weird angry sex. At most one can say he was being too emotional and somewhat aggressive. Therefore at most it was some kind of weird angry sex between them two. Come on ppl she fought that other time when has drunk and she was a lowly palace maid with no real power in the palace. And almost anybody could punish and kill her. Now that she's a high ranking consort even the emperor couldn't kill her/ punish her without any logical or just reasons. Would then she (badass Sungnyang) ever let any man rape her forcefully? They were playing some kind of power struggle and weird love/ sex game. The emperor said something similar to "this time I'm not gonna be to one to cave in/ give up and I'm not going to go to her first this time". He wanted her to show she wanted him more and beg for his imperial "favors" towards her. And she was like "whatever! I'm never gonna lower myself to you and act like a thirsty courtesan just because you're annoyed about it". It was completly weird shit but no doubt they both wanted each other. So they had angry sex even if nothing was solved and they were still fighting. That's why they couldn't even touch each other, hug or anthing the next morning.

Honestly you must have missed many parts of the series. He was suspecting ppl for the fake love letters and that's why you can hear him say "someone is trying to come between us" long before he found out it was his eunuck and yeum the scum sending them. And this even while he was being poisoned for years, also drinking alcohol heavily because of all his bad dreams probably due to the poison and crumbling under all the pressure of being an emperor. Even through all these barriers he still knew Nyang loved him loads but he just wanted her to show it more, say it more and so on. But she's not the mushy, girly, talkative that would smother him with her love. She's more like silent, keep everyting inside, distrusting and on her guard type. That's what they were arguing about. He stopped himself from touching her face the next morning because they were still fighting as a couple (even thou they had angry sex) and nothing was still solved. He wanted to hold her so bad and she also wanted them to get back to normal but yet pretended to sleep while sitting up position (as if anyone can sleep deep like that). That whole thing was less about sex and more about the dynamics of their relationship and love. That's why u hear him yell "why don't u pine for me" also hear her say "my biggest fear is u being done with me". She's guarded because all of her life experiences, loosing her parents, emperors words leading to her fathers death, being from Goreyo and living in Yuan and so on.

I'm sorry to say but you seem to be making a lot of assumptions instead of going on their actions, words and the actual tv-show plot. Nyang always showed clearly she wouldn't have sex with anyone she didn't want to have sex with. And the emperor even stopped himself from kissing her those couple of times when she turned her cheek. And during the hunt he told her he was going to wait for her to come to him on her own. Meanwhile Wang Yu goes to her room saying "what's wrong with me visiting my woman" and then start talking about their past when she was child and almost sold as slave/ tribute. Now she's grateful to him for everything he's done for her and he takes his chance to pressure her to have sex because she's "his woman" now that she accepted his proposal. The whole thing was just so awkward and wrong in my eyes, he went to her room she wasn't even happy about it, then made her cry about the past and on top of that slept with her. Right after she cried about him saving her life. If that's not emotional coercion? Then I don't know what is! Nyang says "I can never repay u in this life time" about Wang Yu because she feels gratitude towards him. But she can't give him anthing back and especially not her heart that he wants the most all. Because her heart and romantic love always belonged to the emperor even when she was mad at him. Wang Yu might be good King and great at many other things but he lacks loads as a lover. But the emperor banters with her alot like the hand holding scene during the shadow play before jealous douchebag Wang Yu interrupted things. Also the fun on the beach time before clingy Wang Yu ran up on them and put an end to their lovely time. It's no wonder she chose the emperor, with his many flaws and all, over that bad lover and douchebag Wang Yu. The emperor and Nyang mostly had quirky, fun, exciting, passionate and extremely romantic relationship.

Don't only focuse on it's weak parts. I really liked the love story of it all and how it was a subtle mystery the man she loved most. The biggest aha moment in the series is the very last episode (specifically the last scene). And after that everything fell in place in my mind, all of the pieces of the puzzle were solved.

It was because of all the poison he consumed for 5 years time, add all the psychological trauma during his entire lifetime as a royal constantly treathened for the throne straight from his birth. And also those fake love letters he received while he was mentally instabile and poisoned by his own eunuck and large amounts of alcohol that he was drinking because of his bad dreams probably from everything combined. I don't think many ppl would handle being in his situation that well and it's a wonder he wasen't way more crazy than that.

They mean that her heart already chose Ta-hwan/ Togon right from the start. The importance of that scene wasn't only her choosing who to ride with but who to love most (romantically) for the rest of her life. And what she wanted to tell the emperor when they were old & grey or atleast before he died. So she started telling him as he was dying and he died before she could finish. But he probably knew how much she loved him as he loved her back just as much. He was her first choice right from beginning and her true and deepest love. But because of other bad shit happening their love took the long way around to get the end.

You seem to have missunderstood a lot about the series. Yeah the emperor was def. lacking as a leader, person etc. and making a lot of bad choices at times. But he also had his good moments too and don't forget he was fed poison that affected his mental state and all those fake love letters that tornented him aswell. Just because ppl hate him doesn't make it less true that Nyang loved him with all her heart even right from the start. Also "rape" come on now would anyone be able to rape badass SungNyang? They only had angry sex (she was acting not interested even when she totally was, and he was mad at her for not initiating their sexy time, aka. not begging him for it) and she was totally in on it all. Didn't you hear her say that her worst fear was him being done with her (that means sexually too)? Why couldn't he "rape" her that other time when she was a lowly maid in the palace and he was so drunk he didn't even remember a thing until his eunuck told him about it? Because at that time she was still mad at him for her fathers death and she def. not interested at that moment. And why didn't he force her that other time at the hunting when he said he would wait for her to come to him on her own? Honestly the emperor was way better and way more romantic than Wang Yu in the series. Wang Yu first pressured her to marry him even thou she loved someone else. And then awkwardly went to her room for sex. With excuse he had right to "go to his woman" because she accepted his marriage proposal. The emperor might be lacking in many things but he is no doubt a much better and way more considerate lover than Wang Yu. Actually the more I think about the more I understand why she loved the emperor over Wang Yu.
