I just wished that Wang Yoo & his pitiful son didn't have to die, and also Feisu. I'd have liked to see these…
She always loved Ta-hwan 1st & most and she only ended up with Wang Yu because of the circumstances. And later she got back to her first and true love as consort. But she was still on guard against him because of betrayal that accidentally lead to her fathers death. Loads of ppl and other barriers (the conflict between Goreyo and Yuan) were always in between them two. So therefore she could never really trust him fully and show all her love. We hear her explain that her worst fear in life is him being done with (aka. betraying) her love. So she doesn't tell him how much she truly loved him even right from the start of them meeting (therefore importance of beach/ horse rider choosing scene in the series). She was planning to wait until they were old and grey but then he got sick. In ending scene she started to begin to tell him her hidden emotions and thoughts. And he died before she got the chance to finish. But he probably knew how she felt anyway even if she never got to say the words.

when nyang had to choose whose horse to ride during the ending scene, what did that mean. Would her life have…
The hidden meaning is she chose Togon at that time. He was always her first choice even when he was deposed. And had nothing to offer her except a a weak lacking personality. But she still fell in love with him for who he was. Their lives became complicated because of actions done by evil el Temur and his minions. So if that wouldn't have happened Wang Yu would have been rejected by Nyang and kicked to curve much sooner.

When ever some one mentions this drama, it makes me feel really sad. D: I regret watching it not because it was…
Why don't ppl understand that she never loved Wang Yu liked that? Just because they don't like Ta-hwans personality, ridiculous behaviour and what not. Does that mean he doesn't deserve to be loved by Nyang? Isn't he still a human being and didn't she freely chose him? He might not be a great person but he's the one Nyang chose with her free will and everyone has the personal right to chose whomever they want to love. Nyang truly loved Togon/ Ta-hwan more than anyone else even right from the start of the series. Right from the time when she was his bodyguard. And maybe even before that when he (was making her laugh loudly) as a fake/deserter soldier and when he was sleeping cutely/ childishly in the wooden box. Her happy facial expressions back then and how amused she was by him tells everything about her feelings for him. It's difficult to understand why Nyang would like/ love so much someone as weak and childish as Togon. But she did love him nevertheless, way more than any other man in the whole series. Nyang cared a whole lot for Wang Yu as a person, her amazing king and her true friend. And might even have been her first boy crush etc. But she never loved Wang Yu romantically well no where close to how she really loved Ta-hwan/ Togon.

Actions and saying go hand in hand and if she really cared about Wang Yu. She would never have hesitated that much when he asked her to marry him. Also she would never have had thoughts and flashbacks about the emperor. And never hit her own head just to try stop herself from thinking about the emperor. And she wouldn't haven't been so uncomfortable when Wang Yu went to her room for some sex. It's understandable why she refused the emperor Togon in the beginning since he killed her dad and all. But what did Wang Yu do for her to be so awkward towards him? Nothing! she was just not that into him. Most of her interactions with Wang Yu was mostly awkwardly forced by him. Even their love making scene, the proposal and all the other promises between them were forced by him. They were all one sided from his part more than hers. Since Nyang had tremendous respect for Wang Yu, she fell for his constant pressure towards her and she might also have thought he was her only choice left. Simply because she felt angry and probably guilty (for still loving the emperor) specially since Togon/ Ta-hwans words lead to the injust execution of her beloved father. So if that wouldn't have happened Wang Yu would never gotten his chance with her.

And therefore Wang Yu was also one of the ppl that came between Nyang and Ta-hwan love. She would never have told Wang Yu to forget her and left him that easily if she really loved him even a little bit. She was only sad concerning Wang Yu because of how much he had done for her and how she couldn't love him back the way he wanted. That's why she was apologizing to him and telling him it was all her fault. Even el Temurs crazy daughter loved Wang Yu more than Nyang. As she was constantly trowing herself at him and thinking about him so much. But Nyang never once in all those years regretted leaving Wang Yu. And Nyang didn't worry the least about not being able to have him. Crazy Tanasiri was fantasizing more about Wang Yu than Nyang. And that says a whole lot about how little she cared romantically for Wang Yu. Even Wang Yu knew Nyang loved the emperor and that's why he never once tried to get her back. Ta-hwan/ Togon was her first choice even when he had absolutely nothing. And he was only making her empty promises on the beach (in the 4th episode). Wang Yu was King of Goreyo and could give her everything but she loved Togon/ Ta-hwan. And that's why she rode the horse with him. She already chose Ta-hwan right there and then, but since she didn't want to hurt Wang Yu's feelings by speaking frankly. Therefore she made up a lie/ story to Wang Yu about it being easier that way. Ta-hwan was strutting proudly after that. And Wang Yu was so jealous because all 3 knew deep down inside that Ta-hwan was her nr. 1 choice. But because of her bad circumstances (her dads death and so on) it all went down hill.

In later episodes when empress Ki and the emperor where arguing and then sleeping together. She explains that her biggest fear was him being done with her. She was always on guard because she was afraid of being betrayed by him and feared she wouldn't been able to handle it. She was probably emotionally scared because growing up as an "orphan". Also the horrible thing that happened to her father because of the emperors words. Even if the emperor didn't know commander Ki was her father but it was still a huge betrayal against Nyang. That's why she tried to lie over and over again. Lie both to herself and the emperor that she neither loved him or cared about him. But she could only keep it up for so long before circumstances brought them back to each other. And she was free to let her heart love him again. When he saved her during the hunt and he proved she could trust him she slept with him willingly. In the end of the series empress Ki wanted to tell the emperor the secret about her hidden emotions and how much she exactly loved him. But he died before she got the chance to tell him everything. That's without doubt the saddest part of the ending. But he probably knew deep down inside how much she really loved him. Even if she never got the chance to tell him everything. And even if a lot of ppl tried to make him doubt her true love for him.

urgh.... should add Tragedy to genre. I am super depressed. I just finished it. I both hated and loved it. Honestly…
She never loved Wang Yu first! Her 1st love choice was the emperor right there on the beach. Even when he was a deposed prince and he had absolutely nothing. She loved him unconditionally and if hadn't been for evil El Temur c/o and her fathers death. They would have been together a long time ago. Wang Yu is one of the blockers that came in between their true love. I like most ppl think the emperor was not an ideal man (lacking leadership skills and too childish etc.) but she still chose him anyway with her own free will. (He actually seemed way better romantic love than Wang Yu atleast.) And she would have stuck with him for the rest of her life if it hadn't been for all the bad circumstances and the evil ppl disturbing their love. Wang Yu might be good King, leader, friend etc. But he was just terrible and completely disgusting towards Nyang pressuring her for marriage and taking advantage of her heart and body during her difficult time with her dads death and heartbreak from Ta-hwan.

Nyang truly loved Togon/ Ta-hwan more than anyone else even right from the start of the series. Already right from the time when she was his bodyguard. And maybe even before that when he (was making her laugh loudly) as a fake/deserter soldier and when he was sleeping cutely childishly in the box while full out war was going on. Her happy facial expressions back then and how truly amused she was by him tells everything about her feelings for him. I wonder how things would've turned out if Ta Hwan had not betrayed Seung Nyang in episode 6...
Nyang would've never been truly happy with Wang Yu since she already loved Ta-hwan. She would have been truly devastated if he would have died.

No! she only used revenge as an excuse. But she married him because she truly loved him even when she tried not to because of her dads death. She could have just as easily have married Tanqishi to get revenge on that family. But she chose the emperor because she loved him and wouldn't mind having him as her husband and permanent life-partner for the rest of her life.

I actually liked Wang Yu in the beginning even if he wasn't as "pretty" as the emperor. But he started to become more annoying and have a truly ugly personality. The more he was awkwardly forcing himself on Sungnyangs heart and body. The emperor atleast gave her a chance to freely and willingly chose him. Except for that one time when he was drunk (and he didn't even remember it) and that other time when he was just trying to kiss her only and not sleep with her. Anyone can tell she had true feelings for the emperor and Wang Yu was only one of many ppl in the way of her heart and love for the emperor. And that's probably why he seems more physically ugly in most ppls minds.

I also started to feel he was hella annoying towards Sungnyang midway throu. His so called proposal was totally awkward. Even the whimpy, weak and childish emperors behaviour started to become more and more favorable in my eyes simply because of annoying Wang Yu's forceful awkwardness.

I'm surprised that many people don't seem to understand the real relationship between 3 main characters. That Nyang in fact loved one man more than the other one. And why she would have chosen him every single time if it wasen't for the unfortunate circumstances that prevented it in the beginning. I don't understand why some people think that she loved them both the same amount etc. Since not many people can have more than 1 top person in their heart. And want that person (the most) as life partner etc. I can explain in my spoiler comment above only man Nyang truly loved the most.
