Do the people saying they like this current cast know anything about this story or the characters? I haven't actually read the book, but I have heard about aspects of the story and seen fan videos for it. Did you know (if I understood correctly) that this story or the main male character was possibly inspired by Xiao Zhan, during the time he was being unjustly persecuted etc?
Do you realize that Deng Yi, will be tortured, be pretty Submissive/tolerant and face lots of persecution etc? In the original story he was forced to become an EUNUCH? He needs to feel like a forbearing and internally conflicted scholar/or official through probably most of the drama. His presence and aura and micro expressions will matter. The female lead writes things down and tries to help him. She will need acting range as well as the male lead. But the production will probably change a lot anyway. I am not sure if I will even watch this drama now, depending on the casting and production..
So sad and disappointing. They are both NOT right for the parts, even though I like Zhang Linghe...😣😰😭

She isn't one of my favorite actresses and she is in almost every Costume drama now. Plus, the way she looks reminds me of an Asian, female Dopey from "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". I have a hard time shaking that impression a large amount of the time I see her. Haha.😂
I am excited to see her styling and makeup too! I really hope they do a good job, especially with her hair. I hope they do something different from most of her older drama styles.
