Title Immortality
If done right, I think it can make its own name along side Untamed and WOH. It got what it takes to be success.…
I completely understand. If worse comes to worst, and this drama was indeed plagued by toxic people like that, then step out. Mental health is important above anything else. It is just if indeed Immortality can live up to our expectations, you can enjoy watching it without looking at what other people are nagging about. Just like the toxic shipping culture in Thai BLs, a person can also choose not to ship and just appreciate the drama for what it is. The same goes for watching Chinese bromance. I find it less stressful to just focus on the drama and not on other people's ruckus as long as it is not related to constructive criticism.

Actually, the real evil here is the censorship per se. There were always be toxic homophobic people, it is just the censorship is giving them fuel to think that their mentality is correct. I was glad I'm a Chinese born out of China and wasn't able to experience the full oppression. It was just a disappointment, for a lot of Chinese novels/danmeis were really so in-depth and poetic that adapting them to drama would have been extraordinary if not restricted to follow strict guidelines. Mo Ran and Chu Wanning's love can't actually be described by words and would have been great to be shared with other people through the live-action. But as long as this kind of tag "Censored Adaptation Of Same-sex Original Work" exists... we are always bound to be disappointed.

Actually, as long as they stick true to the plot, can be at par on chemistry with TU & WOH and have a good CGI worthy of the budget provided... its success will overshadowed people who's toxic like that. Homophobics are everywhere. Even in Thai BLs in which they were freely could show intimate bl scenes... there are still people like that.

If you have read the book, you would understand how the infatuation of Mo Ran to Shi Mei drives the plot and the angst. We can't get the best of two worlds due to the censorship. If that compromise is needed in order for the plot to stay close to original material... then a lot of faithful fans would not mind. Don't let the judgement of other's ruin your mood if (only if) Immortality could really pull of the adaptation worthy of it's source material.

I want this to do well but I don't think this will do well. If they release this now, it will get overshadowed…
If done right, I think it can make its own name along side Untamed and WOH. It got what it takes to be success. If only they do it right. That remain to be seen until the shadow of the trailer finally comes into the picture.

As per the gender change, I know this might cause a huge debacle... especially those homophobic ones that will watch and ship the BG tandem. But I understand why they have to make Shi Mei a girl. If they want to stay true to the plot and dance around the censorship... they have to minimize "BL" content as much as possible. And as a book reader... I know how important Mo Ran obession in Shi Mei at the beginning of the novel.

We are all hyper aware of the enormous fanbase Immortality has. Weighed down by The Untamed and Word of Honor,…
Let me give you the standing ovation you deserves. *clap* *clap* You just enumerated everything that makes RanWan the top couple in my list. Both Mo Ran and Chu Wanning are one heck of complexity. There are a lot of nuances that were not about to be a part of dialogue, especially Wanning is a 'few words' kind of a person... so the lead actors has really give there 100% in order to convey everything the character shows us in the novel. It was a tough one so I understand if a lot of pressure were on the production back.

But this adapatation is once in a lifetime. It might be taken again in the future... but right now, the fans deserves one that so close to the novel itself. Anything less will give a bitter taste.

If done right... this drama might pave way to the golden age of BL. High caliber novel to adapt, actors who look perfect for the role and huge money to spare... what could possibly go wrong? Only the trailer could answer.

So now that I've finally read up to Chapter 152 (still reading) and know what's going on, I wonder...obviously…
Tencent already experience backlash with the Untamed before when the rumor circulated that WWX will have a romantic relationship with WQ. They will not make a similar mistake, I guess (if they don't want to be swallow whole by the book fans LOL). There might be a subtle one-sided crushing at the beginning for we know that MR was infatuated with SMJ at the early stage of the novel. It was a big part of the plot (you will see it more once you reach around the 3rd book). Because of the censorship I'm pretty sure they couldn't get away with 2 BL relationship in the drama. So turning Shi Mei into a woman are their final resort.

With regards to the Immortality's release date, I think I could understand if they might move it a bit further to make sure everything is perfect despite me already dying to see it. Hao Yi Xing is in a very center of pressure since the first rumor came out that it will be adapted. Being equal with Untamed in popularity was the main pressure before, but now WOH takes the BL fandom and everyone by storm, Immortality can only be considered a success if it was perfection. The bar was set so high. And that perfection means it has to have the Untamed-like plot that really close to the original material and WOH's daring and refreshing chemistry.

The source material might be one of the hardest to adapt when censorship is in the picture, but the book fans will not take anything further than what the Untamed managed to get away with. And now seeing WOH courageous and sometimes blatantly dodging of censorship... the romance fans being feed with this kind of feast would surely expect to also see it in HYX. I have faith in the lead actors. The budget for this drama is gigantic for a BL one, so if it will be utilized correctly, the cinematography is also not a question. The script and direction though... that's where everything could either go well or wrong. I could wait a bit longer, than seeing a half-baked drama, even if I'm willing to sell my kidneys just to see the trailer. What a predicament.

I've been meaning to start reading it but I've been putting it on hold because of how sad everyone says it is.…
It was a HEA, don't worry. Yes it was extremely painful, no books has ever made me into a ball of crying haysack, but this one takes home the medal. This novel is known for it, but to those who have read it and love it, we'll gladly take all the knives the author's throw in every corner. Because that makes this novel something you might never forget for a very long time.

Take a leap of faith, dear. No pain, no gain. There is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. You just have to withstand the rain.

The wait for this series and trailer release is making me really agitated. Erha might be the most emotionally…
Don't be like that... you are turning me into puddle of tears again. Even remembering and thinking about blasted wontons was enough to trigger my tear glands. Shizun and MoRan romance questions morality, norms and how far the reader could handle the painful butcher knives the author is throwing throughout the protagonists love trial. But if you really look closely, both their love is so simple and pure. They are both flawed characters but good people that were forced by circumstances to take unconventional actions to protect that simple love. That imperfectly perfect fated love indeed is a great loss that will surely not be shown in the drama. But let's all do vigil while we wait for the trailer hoping that the production team managed to subtlely get away with a fraction of RanWan "bromance". Just don't get your hopes too high.
Has anyone seen the Ep 3 teaser? Dang! That alone hurts. Didn't think I have to bring out my box of tissue so early.

Type's tender reassurance of their happiness goes hand in hand with Tharn's pained but resigned expression. (sigh)

The ribbon looped around Tharn's ring finger...

You know it is a dilemma when two of your most loved characters were right in their own way. Which leads to the question: Is love an enough reassurance for an insecure heart that wants nothing but to have you wholeheartedly?

Not to mention Fiat is already coming to bring trouble. (yikes)

"Loving you is not easy." Poor Tharn, it will not get easier it seems in the next episodes.

The first two episodes indeed is the calm before the storm.
