"Can the king be caught?" - guys, I know many of you didn't want this to be but I love it when I guess right - so yay, I was right - they finally revealed him!

Would have been better if it hadn't dragged on for such a long time :/ I liked our main couple (when they were together) I liked Do Yoon (all the time), Tae Yoon, and Ga On. Could care less about everyone else. The main problem is the draggy-ness of this plot - This drama could easily have been finished in no more than 50 episodes. But they drag it on so long that the "revenge" thing doesn't even begin until the 70's :/ But like I said, the only reason I kept watching was b/c I did honestly like our main lead guy and the basis of the storyline (not to mention the ending ost) but the rest of the drama is a miss for me. Even the end was pretty bad (good ending - but way too much left unexplained). In the end, I'm just glad it's finally over lol

when will the part 2 be published? i loooooved this article,,,, thank you for posting!
I'm still in the process of finishing up a drama for that article and I also plan on re-watching another. I have yet to do more research on the article's period - so I still have quite a bit of work to do, but it should be sent in for publishing in 3 weeks at the latest - and then it depends on the editing team and when they will "publish" it from there ^_^

I'm grateful that you loved my article ^^ I hope you enjoy the next ones just as much ^_^

Currently watching...

The first episode and the first half of the 2nd episode starts off at the end of the drama in 1950 just before the war breaks out and the very start of the war...
and the kids episodes are from the second half of the 2nd episode and till the end of the 6th episode in 1933 - then it's back to the adult characters starting in 1940.
*edit* Episode 49 starts back off where the first episode started.

Where is this kid now? Oh he's no longer a kid! He really can act!
He has currently stopped his acting activities in order to pursue his other career as an equestrian. I don't know when or if he will start his acting again.

Thanks for this great article, I really liked reading it ^^ There were really stories like Tae Guk Gi. My professor…
I found what you were talking about 'the brothers in war memorial statue' - thank you for mentioning it!
Here is what I found: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statue_of_Brothers

Also, I found out Aerok hill was a fictional hill when I was researching it lol, I have it included in my description under the film that it's a fictional hill - but I mentioned that there were hills like it that they fought over :) - That's cool though how when you read it backwards it's Korea Hill, I didn't notice that before ^^

Can that really honestly even be considered an "ending"??? o.O One things for sure I know why I dropped this when it was airing back in 2013... it's so dull and boring, only a few things to pique your interest, the first 8 episodes are the hardest to get through.. by episode 9 or 10 I was "enjoying" it a little more but I can't say I'd recommend it.

First off, people tend to misunderstand what this drama is really about b/c of the title. It's NOT a sport drama - so don't expect a lot of basketball and cool sportsmanship games - it's a drama about the Japanese Occupation of Korea, so it shows the struggles of both rich and poor, how they are abused and treated less than humans - their struggle to survive it, to escape from it and their realization that they have to do something even if it won't change much.
It's called 'Basketball' b/c that was one of the biggest sports back then and it's our main characters dreams - they love basketball and all they want to do is succeed at it - but of course their dreams are oppressed at every moment.
The romance in this was the worst (in my honest opinion the main girl deserved neither guy - she was "unfaithful" in my books - even if the drama writers tried to get us to see her differently).
The actors (especially the main younger cast) were pretty much all newbies and you could really tell. Their acting had many flaws and I think that made their characters less appealing.
I favored Kang San (even though in the beginning he was treading down the wrong path) his acting was new but not absolutely terrible lol, and I could at least feel for his character somewhat - even if I didn't approve of everything he did. I also liked Hong Gi, Sung Woon, and Bong Soon.
Chi Ho was I think the worst at acting - he needs to improve, I could see all his weaknesses in acting skills. And I couldn't find any sincerity in his character until the last 2 or 3 episodes - I saw him as a man who thought he was Mr. Glory or something - so he irritated me beyond belief - of course the writers tried to say he wasn't like that (so again I'm not sure if I read his character right or if it was just b/c of his bad acting).

+ it did give you facts on certain things they mentioned in this drama during that period.
- unfortunately those "facts" stopped being translated in the latter half of the drama :'(

I think this became my favourite article. ;) ♥ You know how much I love this period of time, not because…
I'm so very happy that this has become your favorite article ^^ Makes me feel like I really did a great job :) Just like you I too really like this period of time for the same reasons, it awakes strong emotions in me and also b/c it shows the true fighting spirit of the Korean people ♥ and I too enjoy dramas/films that can make me cry. and crying not just tears but tears that make your entire body ache.
Thanks for saying such great things about it chingu ^_^

*some pictures were changed that I'm hoping to get changed back however in the article lol* (no one would know but me of course :P )

I have watched My way movie. It is also a war movie based on world war 2.
Exactly why I didn't add it here, it's a war movie yes, but it wasn't based on the Korean war, it was set during the Japanese occupation which will be presented in my next article. :)

well, I guess everyone is happy b/c Jae Yi is his daughter it seems... :/ although her real name is Yeon Ho...…
Thank you for commenting on my theory rather than the actress - it's very much appreciated ^^ Right, she did say "Ahjussi" - I didn't even think of that. I knew it was Sun Jae's mom since she said she had a baby. But her saying "Ahjussi" does mean that we are right about Jung Ho Young not being the killer. and that has to make him the witness. lol, I'm probably the only one that does want the forensic doctor to be the killer :P I like it when I guess it right so if he is the killer it would make me happy for guessing right lol - I don't mind if it was used before in another drama.

well, I guess everyone is happy b/c Jae Yi is his daughter it seems... :/ although her real name is Yeon Ho... I wouldn't mind it myself if the actress was someone else. I'm kinda bummed it's her just b/c of the actress who plays her :/ But whatever, I'm going to have to put up with it. I just wished they would have chosen an actress who can show some emotions - this actress (not her character) is SO utterly stiff in her face.

I am still not convinced that Jung Ho Young is the actual killer (but rather he might have been the witness to the killings in the past) and he he is a "copycat" killer like in Gap Dong - but I think the real killer is that coroner doctor guy.

*Guys (first off, I'm not angry, I'm just a bit miffed, I'm saying all this calmly so don't take it wrong) - it's my OWN PERSONAL OPINION okay - not everyone has to think the same about the actress. I don't think it's just her character - I think it's the actress herself. but again it's my IMO. If you think otherwise that's fine, I don't understand why everyone has to get on my case about that whenever I mention it. Why doesn't anyone ever comment on something else I say instead of focusing on my opinion of her? I get that many of you may like her but I don't and in my minds eye it's not just her "character" I've seen dramas for YEARS. So I've come across several actresses who Can act and plenty who can't. and then some who just have too "plastic" of faces to act well. Again IMO.*

Good drama with a good story I enjoyed it - especially the characters Song Joo, Woo Wan and Soo Hyun. I still prefer Bridal Mask over this one b/c when it concerns these type of a set in a hard time in Korea, I like a lot of angst and fighting over romance and comedy (but that's just my own personal taste lol). I was worried about an annoying love triangle but luckily my suspicions on that happening proved wrong :) The only character I really didn't like was Woo Wan's step mom -_- For me she and her character's involvement in his life was not needed but since she didn't appear too much I let it pass. I only cried once (I believe it was in episode 15). Final rating 8.0

I could only find this on YT, no subs, and the picture was in the left hand corner of the screen - it was hard to see b/c of that and it was really hard to hear (I had to put headphones in) - I ended up skipping through the movie to see what it was like b/c of all the nuisances of how it was presented on YT - so obviously I couldn't grasp the whole content of the show since I watched it like that but what I saw I didn't like and or didn't care for. Not a good movie in my own opinion of the Japanese Occupation. :/ So I added it to my "dropped" list since I only saw bits and pieces.
