Yes true. I didn't look at drama with this angle. Here is a thing we sympathise with the character we like the most for example you are watching drama with zyz perspective whereas i watched drama with yichen or wx perspective. In my mind yichen is the real victim. He lost his whole family in young age and has to live alone thats why he has problems communicating. Yes ZYZ was misunderstood sometimes but he was not very good person like remember 1st episode when yichen/ZYZ were fighting he casually killed a guard to threaten yichen when he was about to stab him. So who is gonna pay for that innocent death? They clearly showed that even though ZYZ usually harmless but he will trick anyone if he had some agenda. He also lived for 34k years so he must have killed alot of people.Whereas no matter what happens yichen never hurt anyone. Even when people isolated him and trashed him he didn't reacted and lilun was so desperate wanted him to kill ZYZ but he never did.

It was definitely rushed alot of scenes were cut short. The backstories could take more time and efforts. But still it was better then alot of dramas wher we completely skip 2nd half i sometimes skip 2 episodes at a time just for the sake of watching ending. Fox spirit matchmaker have this problem so many visuals yet such a bad storyline. I still love alot of things like the fight scenes were so epic not like you blow 1 tine and the other is rolling on ground or spitting blood like tushan jing in lost you forever. Not a single drama in my opinion is perfect we have flaws in every drama.

I understand what u r trying to say yes i also felt yichen jealousy was a bit forced but GJM never focus on romance he was trying to show that yichen was jealous of ZYZ getting attention. In a sense he showed everyone was attention seeker as they all lost their family and friends in early ages. And remember stories and folklore always remains same. Its the deliverance that make dramas different. The visual also played a role. Alot of audience solely watch for the visuals.
