I've been learning over a year now( 2 a week- 2h class). I know ( or I'm supposed to know) about 150 kanji characters, and probably I'm supposed to be able to hold an easy conversation, but there is no way to test it :). But I understand quite a lot while watching, and I'm able to recognize some grammar structures I've learned. When you recognize grammar it's easier to catch on vocabulary, so I think it's a good way to practice, especially when they repeat the same phrases a lot, so it sticks in your head. E.g. Gaara is called Gaara of the Desert, in Japanese Sabaku no Gaara, I've learnt before that desert is sabaku, but I wouldn't remember if it wasn't for him <3 I still watch with English subtitles though. Do you learn any foreign languages? beside English?

jrock would be probably a good step for me, I need ask some friends for recs. Its good for studying the language in the same way that watching 20+ episodes of anime daily is ( but I'm really starting to recognize that complicated Japanese grammar constructions I had in class while watching). It's all for the sake of education :) Also I need to survive somehow at work, and anime is enough low-profile to watch here, and keeps my consciousness occupied between calls.

Yes I do, but recently only for running, I still try to figure out what to listen beside that- something rockish would be good, Naruto soundtrack is pretty good too. And it seems there aren't that many good tracks recently in kpop (or I'm too lazy to look for them). I like some SuJu songs, but I'm not a big fan, although I adore Siwon's acting in Skip Beat, and even more in Drama King(he's the best one there). My recent favorite from kpop is Icon ( No Min Woo<3) - Rockstar

Yes, I just didn't read the last one. The story goes far beyond what's in anime or in drama. But drama is still worth a watch because I think the main actress did a really great job.

I love Skip beat I even read the manga, I've watched some of the episodes of anime, but not all yet. Drama is pretty good too, especially the middle episodes.

So what are you watching from anime? Anything good? I find the anime are even more twisted than Japanese dramas, at least Naruto is. I like the complexity of the characters, and that every one of them have some kind of background story to be revealed. The plot is a lot more complex than in dramas. I didn't expect to like it that much ^_^

Some episodes are slower, but it's really refreshing concept, and I was always interested in ninjas ( the real ones) so its interesting how they recreated that concept for a totally fantasized setting. The story is really great, and I'm obsessed with Gaara, in crazy-fangirl-way, so I crave to see more of him, as he is a side character, it's not so easy, so I watch a lot hoping for him to show up :). Do you watch anime?

Kyo, Koi wo Hajimemasu, was ok, I but I think it would only make sense if you read or watched the manga or anime ( I did neither) it was very fast-paced and they've put too much story into one movie, so there was no room for emotional development and all that little charms that make the story magical.
I don't watch anime much, I did watch some shows when I was little like Sailor Moon (I've rewatched it not so long ago LOL), Dragon Ball, and that one about football. And I've tried some other ones, if they were drama connected, I've watched some Nodame ( but I prefer the drama), Skip Beat ( but I prefer the manga), Yamato Nadeshiko... ( 10x more hilarious that the drama), Kimi Ni Todoke (it tells much more story than the movie). I want to watch more, so I started Naruto, I'm already in Shippuden because I watch it at work(between calls ^_^).

Great article! I think J-dramas have just a real knack for this sort of chemistry. And that is what I love about them, because it feels the connection between characters is much deeper than as if they would kiss, fight, get together and break up again, as in some other dramas. Those are usually much more platonic, but then they have more stability, because they always stick for each other. And of course in my perception I always believe they end up together -someday, somewhere. The most bizarre pairing that I love is from Akumu-chan, I believe they all live somewhere as a happy family :). Can't wait to see the movie.
