Similar to Street of Shame by Mizoguchi but more like a poor version of it. Shown us the end of a prestigious (Is it ? Does not look like it...) geisha house through the eyes of the new handmaid. It's watchable but not really interesting for me.
Very interesting subject, rarely approach in movies. Kind of quiet movie, in the way the feelings are expressed, truly japanese somehow. Nice adding of character in the second part, brings a lot to the story either on the content or the form. The film has a slow pace and last more than 2 hours, so it's not for everyone, but as the subject affected me personnaly and I wanted to know the end, I did not suffer to finish it. It is made by a young director, she has amazing ideas but there is still some way to go for the technic or to perfectly express these ideas.
Good movie overall, but it has some bad points. There are so much unrealistic scenes in the last hour, the movie is long (but with a good pace), I didn't really care about what will happen to the different characters, it seems that for me this movie lacks a soul, the one which attracts you deeply and emotionnaly in.
Did we watch the same movie ?It's not a tragic and depressing movie but on the contrary it's about hope, second…
First, I meant I respect the fact you dislike the movie, and that for me you didn't understand the movie at all, that's why I thought your opinion is biased.
Sorry but where is the anger in my message ? Is someone who try to discuss with you and who doesn't share your opinion is automatically angry ?
The facts you mentionned in your first message are nearly all wrong, I explained to you point by point why, I'm talking about FACTS, it has nothing to do with perpective and opinion.
I really don't understand your reaction, why you're feeling attacked ? I mean if I saw a movie that i disliked, and if someone tell me after that I didn't understand the movie and explaining me why, so maybe that's why I disliked it, I'll try to watch it from a different perspective and maybe I will eventually appreciate it .
So, I suggest in the future you should be more understanding and more open to criticism, and maybe you should consider that maybe even you can be wrong, and that opinions or perspective are made to be changed.
Some sites list this movie as "romance" but there's essentially none. This a tragic & depressing movie…
Did we watch the same movie ? It's not a tragic and depressing movie but on the contrary it's about hope, second chance, and restart your life again. There is absolutely no fatalism in the movie.
What are you talking about ? Just one guy ask her money and intend to not give her back because of memory loss, that's all. Who are these people who tried to deceive her ?
She looks like a likable person for me, she had a lot of unhappy moments during these 10 years but she didn't hurt anyone except maybe the guy in her second suicide attempt and he was not in condition to drive anyway. She told her sister she has a good voice and learnt her to sing, supported her, she gave a lot of money to 'her friend' for the operations and injections. She's a nice person who just had very unhappy moments in her life, where is the non-likable part ? The feeling of hope is absolutely everywhere, just tell me one moment of the movie where you could see a tragic path. I respect your opinion about this movie, but for me you get everything completely wrong.
Interesting one, actors are amazingly charismatic (what happened Japan ?!) but this movie lacks emotions so much. I can't connect to character's stories and thus it didn't touch my feelings. Watchable.
Not the best Kore-Eda, it's like he went too far from what he usually does. The problem is that the message of the movie swept away the form. I mean imo Kore-Eda focused too much on the message he wanted to give to the audience, thus the movie has a lot of defaults in its construction and the story development. But very watchable !
Could have been better, the characters are interesting but not developed enough. Imo, the movie lacks depth, the love story is absolutely not developed enough, the conclusion is weird, for me Shinobi is just too simple to make it a good movie. But very watchable.
A very good surprise for me, Kimura gave an amazing performance here. The fights are well executed and it's pretty violent. The story is simple but solid ! Nice one.
Too bad, the story had some potential.
