A drama that unexpectedly evolves into a thoughtful reflection on adulthood and personal growth.
I started this drama because I was looking for something light and silly to watch but the more episodes I watched, the more I realized the story had a surprisingly deep meaning. While romance isn't really the focus, in the sense that there aren’t many romantic scenes, it’s Love that drives the protagonists' actions.
The story gradually developed into a meaningful portrayal of adult life. How many people actually end up chasing the dream that defined their youth? Very few. Most of us, for various reasons, come to terms with the fact that some dreams can no longer be pursued. Still, that doesn’t make life any less valuable. As long as we live, we have the ability to renew ourselves. Even something unexpected or seemingly out of character can lead to new joys and a life we never thought we’d live. That’s the beauty of life: as long as we have the will to move forward, we’re always presented with new perspectives, emotions, and sources of hope.
But there were also a few aspects of the drama that I didn’t appreciate.
The bigger issue is the decision to force the protagonists’ relationship into a romantic one. It could have remained platonic, and it would’ve worked just as well, if not better. I expected the writers to take a more courageous approach in this regard. I especially disliked the line suggesting that “it doesn’t matter if love is toxic as long as people make independent decisions.” That message felt very off and undermined the stronger themes explored earlier in the series.
That said, the drama was still very enjoyable and actually pulled me out of my drama slump. It’s rare these days to find a series that puts real heart into its storytelling, one that isn't just about aesthetics or pretty shots, but has something genuine to say with its negative and positive aspects.
