I do find it odd though not surprising as dramas nowadays seldom stay the course throughout.

I’m a novelist and I know writers like to experiment. And if one’s going to write a breakup or a separation in a mature setting; it’s best to make it juicy so even if there’s angst, you’re not making the audience feel a disconnect btwn the past and present, you know? Things have to be cohesive especially the actions of the characters.

I don’t think it’s because people didn’t want “drama“ in a drama is why we’re pausing but because of the fact that they’re using a tired misunderstanding/miscommunication trope. Like it completely whacks The intelligence and Adulting for lack of a better term out of orbit. There could’ve been any number of ways angst could’ve been written for this drama to keep it within the same level of what we saw the first half of it. What is being shown instead is a dumbing down of the leads and it really hurts this series. I truly hope that it doesn’t last for like 10 episodes or even six.

That’s exactly it. Enough bad shit happening irl; I don’t want to deal with it dramas too lol. I mean obviously a drama should have things not work out or go wrong but not some poorly written trope.

That's why I'm pausing watching until I know when it ends and it's possible all of this week is a misunderstanding debacle 🤦🏻‍♀️.

But they it appears are dumbing down both leads and it’s a tired trope especially in a smart and more adult thinking drama.

I don’t know, I felt WXS’ grief on full display in that scene but everyone sees things differently. LYN I can’t say was overacting just doing what a convoluted script showed him to portray. He’s not acting a “villain”, he’s a bat shit crazy train with an old woman cackle lol. When writers add “the evil laugh” it’s never good.

He even admitted all nonchalantly.

Just a quick comment, this isn’t a xianxia, it’s a Wuxia. I usually get them all mixed up too.
