Everyone chose to follow him. It's not like he was recruiting. He was a brilliant strategist and a general so he got the army behind him all of them. He protected his country so he was fiercely loyal to them, and the guardians came with I guess whoever decided on that one. So every single thing that he did that spark jealousy and everyone else he did on his own.
