The douban score is 6.9 which is high for idol costume dramas. Most XianXia dramas usually get lower score at Douban (lower 5). FCY getting 6.9 is indication that it got good story and acting.

Probably the best XianXia drama Ive seen in recent years? The drama actually focus on cultivaton part of XianXia drama and the road to be deity.
The drama explores on many ethical and philosophy topics. I actually impressed on how the writer incorporates many modern problems in the story. So many depth in the plot and characters even the supporting actors.
And so many interesting characters! They all exist beyond the leads. And finally a mature communicating leads in XianXia dramas. Color me surprise lol
I understand why people said Ren Jialun picked great scripts. I certainty can see the patterns in his dramas.

And the best parts, all the 3 main characters are super smart and complex. They don't need to nerf anyone so everyone got great character arcs.

Actually, if you watch more, you will change your opinion completely by episode 10. ML is flawed and he is so desperate to free his people that he didnt mind hurting innocent people. But this drama made him learnt his lesson the hard way. By episode 10, you will get what I meant
And they didnt ruin the 2ML. Just like the leads, he have great character development and arcs. He has lot of screen time too.
