People have different tastes. You don't like it, others do. They're touched by the simple storyline focusing on main leads only , their chemistry & acting. It touched heart strings & took over their minds so they feel good about this drama & hence the ratings. Remember world doesn't revolve around u. Not every drama has to be Nirvana in fire or untamed (which isn't perfect itself btw) to have high ratings. Sometimes Heart touching chemistry & simple storyline is enough. 2) u mentioned reply 1998, I found it extremely boring & didn't understand the hype but I'm not going to question other people's ratings or love for it since it clearly stuck something with them. Some of us don't like secondary characters Stories (& most of the time they're only there to be fillers), some of us only wanna focus on main leads & their Romance which is why we chose to watch it in the first place, remember romance is the only genre of this drama added with a lil bit of siblings banter. It's not reply 1998 which isn't just Romance. This drama does the extremely rare job these days which is to adapt the source material excellently & u know what were first words of author of the novel for novel introduction? That there won't be no secondary characters focus b'cuz they personally & many people don't care about them (that note was actually hilarious) & they were proven right with the amount of popularity the novel/manhua got & now the drama is getting. So clearly they know what they were doing. 3) sang zhi's adult voice. It's lusi's natural voice this is how she speaks. It's very thin & this is how most Chinese actresses usually speak in dramas . Unless the drama is dubbed or she's potraying a highly serious/action character you will see her sounding like this everywhere. She can't do anything about it. 4) adult sangzhi behaves exactly how an adult should (she isn't 30 remember she's in her college era in her "adult" ver). She is kind & sympathetic to people around her. She trusts & understands her man & stands up for him. She takes help/advice from him when she needs it, conducts herself gracefully infront of people belittling her or her man. Handles the talk with her parents well. Doesn't create unnecessary drama or misunderstandings. She's one of the only few likable &mature fl in romance focused dramas (in both C & K dramas) . The only criticism I have is the choice of very young actress to potray young sangzhi

Actors don't choose to be typecasted they get typecasted when they're successful in 1 particular role unless they've a backing, big company or some kind of special background , small actors can't do anything about it. Lusi got those type of roles when she was still unknown in dramaland , it's not in her control but she has already done different roles now that she's popular.

Wow I read all this & I'm commenting very late but damn u need to male up ur mind first about what u actually wanna talk about. First u were blabbering about lusi's acting & now u wanna bring wrtw here 💀 all the complaints u have with that drama is all director/producer/technical staff's fault. Nothing to do with lusi. U mentioned cgi for fight scenes & compared her with liu yufei? Ok then tell me is lusi the only one using cgi in her drama? The times when liu yufei made that drama , CGI wasn't even as easily available like it is now actors had to do all the work themselves, now-a-days cgi us available so they use that to do it. It's an issue for the whole of cdramas nowadays not just were so why u acting like lusi alone is responsible for this or she's the only one doing cgi?? Also bringing up all this about wrtw for what? Hutong is a completely different genre & her role here also doesn't seem anything extraordinary that she can't play. She has showcased her ability to play different roles already with Chen Qian Qian (a quirky Comedic role) to li leyan (graceful, innocent, silent princess) to bai fengxi (strong but quirky powerful woman) to Cheng shaoshang (cute, fun but cunning to emotional but mature woman who stands up for herself) she has already shown her ability to play these different characters & she slayed them all. She got tonnes of praise for CSS role now. Pretty sure hutong won't be a problem for her. As for "typecasting problem" u keep talking about I don't see hou minghao in many "different roles" either he feels rather type casted as well to me🥴

No did u forget before this she asked him to teach her self defense so she can fight her bullies when he isn't around?? He was teaching her that but instead became more romantic & hot. & That specific pressure point/meridian he talks about is actually called life meridian a very sensitive spot . He was indirectly telling her that his life is her now

How do you watch so many episodes & come to this conclusion 💀 lby was the one who dragged her into palace politics but putting her in a situation where she had no choice but to marry him, he claims he loves her for who she is but also expects her to "not interfere" aka change. We know that he does that to keep her safe but he should've thought about all the danger she could be in when he decided to make her wife when he very clearly knew that she didn't want that she needed a free life. All the ling buyi does so much for her blah blah is for us audience to see, for ss he's just a cunning ruthles man before who she was was scared of until she had these new feelings for him. She isn't claiming to be super smart girl that knows it all. All she's asking him off is not to leave her out on things, she wants lby to actually share stuff with her, if he thinks she's naive then actually tell her things like who she needs to be wary off etc etc . He's acting like the rest of her family that wouldn't consider her competent enough always lecturing her about what to do what not without properly guiding her. This girl has serious issues of people looking down on her since childhood. She's the opposite of considering herself smart, infact she considers Herself always inferior ¬ good. She just wants to be seen as a equal partner to him,for him to actually treat her as a partner , guide her not just hide her like a child. Also u cant be more far from reality 😂 yes she would suffer when lby leaves but not because "oh how good was he to me I should've cared about him more" kinda way but the opposite. She won't stop loving him but she'll hate him more for first dragging her into his mess, making her fall in love with him & then leaving her. Her iconic line is "I will forget but won't forgive" for lby & lby suffers even more & become unhinged in the novel idk if that'll be same in drama he'll be regretting his choices desperately trying to get her back which she won't be willing easily

This comment just showed y"all have no understanding of the drama of what it's trying to showcase because y"all are too busy labeling it to certain tropes. Them falling for her because she's not "perfect" is the whole point. They've tons of those perfect ladies chasing after them their whole lives then here comes this girl that is not only "imperfect" & different but actually smart confident & free. Did u seriously just said that they fell for her for no reason?? When the reasons are well explained for all 3 of them? Luo yao falls for her bravery, take no bs attitude &her courage for standing up for herself something he lacks. He admires her (more than love ig). YS falls for her intelligence & the fact that she's the only one who rejected him. Buyi gets amazed with her attitude of handing over her granduncle without second thoughts,her innocence in that lantern festival & their somewhat similar circumstances of dwelling in the past. YS & lbY also has several girls chasing them because of their looks & talent but I ain't seeing anyone complaining about it or do people only have problems when it's the girl being chased by several guys? Also u called it unrealistic? I guess u personally haven't been in a situation like this so that's understandable but I've. & I can fully relate with the whole several guys chasing u but u choose 1 after a long time scenario. This story is female lead's story. She is the protagonist & the whole point of the story is different guys entering her life but she decides which one she wants. It js quiet refreshing then those fl immediately Falling in love with 1 guy or having a preference for ml over sml.

It would make no sense for it to be a grand exposure . It would be way out of character for baifengxi. She's a very smart person, so connecting the dots & finding out about his indentity shouldn't be a big deal. Infact it would be more stupid if they dragged this out & somehow made her stupid enough to not realise his identity given the clues. Also her not making a big deal out of it is even more understandable given bfx's character. She's hiding her own identity as well no one can relate to hfx the way she dies so all the more reason for her to understand why he's doing this. Her directly going to him to confront him is very baifengxi of her. I highly doubt it's gonna be a grand reveal for her identity either since like most people I also suspect that hfx already know her identity

Fighting lackluster? Fighting is literally the best thing about this drama🥴 also this is slowburn romance if that ain't ur cup of tea then this drama is not for you

Not a fan of ml but I love reba so I was really excited for this drama but then turns out there's no eng subs😭 I wanna support legally so I guess I'll have to wait till they upload full drama in eng subs

Actually he doesn't get what he wants in the novel (more like he left it himself b'cuz he realised there are other things he want more than his previous goal) it's gonna be same in the drama (judging from trailers)

It's because almost in all dramas we see ml & fl meeting for first time & then falling in love but this drama is unique in that aspect (it's exactly same in novel as well ) it starts in the middle where they already know each other for years (as frenemies) so I understand why u felt that way

He's the antagonist since he'll be against baifengheixi but he's not a bad guy. Idk how to explain this without spoilers but you'll see his character is good he's just on a different side but he isn't evil

Also alot of money got wasted in her lil sect sister langhua's treatment. They wouldn't be struggling at all & would reach home without problems if not for her falling sick.

Maybe if u watched the drama carefully u would know those answers. She took them by ship instead of road is because those sect people hardly go out in the world. Bfx wanted to give them an opportunity to enjoy the world while they're on their journey to home (this is specifically mentioned in the drama ). As for money it's not like they didn't have money at all. When they started their journey they had money hence they could hire a ship, but all the food cost , ship fare & so many people to feed etc made her run out of money . Shoes not being dirty is the only thing that's hilarious
