Honestly I would rate it badly too for all the romanticizing of sexual assault (it's even more horrifying because…
"Would you watch horror movies so that you will learn how to scare people or Marvel movies so you will know how to obtain superpowers?"

You seem to need to make your point by patronizing me like a five years old. Stuff isn't this literal. Also nothing in the show seems to suggest that it's bending reality so I don't know what you're talking about.

Most shows or movies have a moral compass. It doesn't have to be like our reality. It can be as skewed and twisted as it needs to be to make sense of the universe that the story is set in. But there needs to be some consistency. For example Deadpool.
For TT, I just feel the universes moral compass was all over the place.

"But you forget to consider that this is an art form and that's why it's intended for the mature audience who have proper discernment. Is the show trying to promote the trope to be applied in relationships? If you think it's unhealthy, then would you apply it to your relationship?"

This is an art form you say. Exactly! Art isn't infallible, I can comment on it, question why it was made a certain way, why certain element or themes were part of it, what is the point that show is trying to make and how does it add collectively to contemporary and classic work. Making a show is a deliberate thing, full of choices and I'm allowed to criticized those choices.

"You watch an art form with characters that are in a different universe. You watch because you want to be entertained and not to apply the errors of the ways of certain characters. That's how you become responsible audience. You watch with discernment."

You must be the pinnacle of discernment, you must have never been emotionally persuaded, changed an opinion or seen thing from a new perspective after watching a movie. And you must have never heard of Nazi Propaganda Films or Captain America comics being used to inspire troops during WW2 or even Fight Club. Media does have an impact on our reality, albeit subconsciously and it can change our perception of thing.

"Comments such as yours seem self-righteous when you forget that adult viewers can discern for themselves and can distinguish between right or wrong."

Look I think that there are may things that we as a society can collectively agree on that are right and wrong I'm not going aound commenting on those. But what we're talking about here involves lots of contemporary issues like rape culture, victim blaming, trivialization of male rape and what and what isn't consent. Manifestations of these are present in society and media, and we're immune to neither. We are grappling with these issues as" adults" and people still condone many of these actions. You must be living in some utopia to believe that everyone is discerning and has a balanced sense of right and wrong.

I think it's a bit hypocritical that you can criticize queerbaiting and poor depiction of a gay couple and then turn around and shit me for questioning a harmful sexual assault trope.

"If you think that watching this is wrong because of the sexual assault trope, then maybe stick to the Bible shows or to shows with no villains. I don't care."

Umm did I say that you watching this it is wrong? Where?
I said I didn't like it, some thing were problematic, some things didn't make sense. I also explained why I didn't like it. That's an opinion that I'm entitled to.

So please don't tell me what and what not to watch. You're getting offended that I don't like what you like and that while you had a positive experience, I had a negative one.

I haven't read the novel so I can't comment on that. My views are based solely on the show and that's all I got from of it . Tharn's behavior is what really upset me in the first few episodes. It changed how I felt about everything after that. Removing those scenes wouldn't have changed a lot that happened later so it baffles me a bit. Also,I never said panic attacks are only triggered by sexual assault only. I mentioned it in relation to a specific event. Anyway, we all internalize differently so to each their own.

" Can we cite this as a difference in culture or a different approach in dealing with issues from the norm like in the case of Type?" I've no idea what you mean this. This seems like a vague statement that can justify a lot of problematic things.

You're making it sound like this plot is doing something new but it's a tale as old as time. This is a fairly common and harmful trope of falling in love with someone who's abused and/or stalked you. This problematic relationship is then painted as passionate, exciting and desirable. Nothing exists in a vacuum. Reality affects fiction and vice versa (for example the male gaze in cinema and the perception of women.) So forgive if I have concerns with some of these tropes.

I've seen shows with problematic relationships and complex and nuanced character but they are portrayed to be what they are - unhealthy. This show had none of those cues. And while you see their relationship for what it is, from all the comments I saw, it seems a lot of people see their relationship as desirable. So is it the audience's fault or the show's.

Tharn doesn't have reflect on his actions even once during the whole course of the show. He's made to sound like such a nice, saintly affectionate guy, totally cut off from his actions in episode 1-4. The whole show makes it seems like sexual assault is awful but if it's a specific person like the main lead then it's okay.

Anyway, this is an upsetting topic, I think I've said all I needed to. Ciao.

Type is a character who experienced childhood sexual abuse and he's trying to cope with it. There are no issues with this. What disturbed me is that Tharn sexually assaulted him multiple times and even triggered a panic attack. And then after all that, they get into a relationship. The show brings up a legitimate problem and then stomps on it instead of really dealing with it. This happens multiple times in the show.

As for San, can I say that reaction was so mild, it made it seem very trivial. Would you choose to stay close friends with someone who did that to your younger sibling?

Again with Lhong, victims need justice and criminals need reform. Maybe I was a bit harsh but I feel that a character's tragic past, can explain their current behavior without excusing it (this includes Type's homophobia) We spend so much time with Lhong and his anguish, but hardly see how Tar, the victim is really processing this. Again when Lhong is dismissed by Tharn, we hardly see how Tar feels about of this. Tar seemed so secondary to all of this. It seemed like it was all about Type, Tharn and Lhong.

"You need to let go of your prejudice when watching TharnType. You analyze and listen to their dialogues. The questions you may have may even be answered in the dialogues or narration."

I don't know what the prejudice here is really but since this a complex and nuanced topic maybe it's all down to personal experience. Some those answers and dialogues in film and unsatisfactory and I really shouldn't have to watch a show thrice to get it.

Since you are talking about the universe, I have to say it keeps doing an about turn. (Techno's scene with Kengkla was played for laughs).I have a hard time discerning where this universe stands as far sexual assault and rape are concerned and whether the efforts to talk about it are sincere. That's really all I have to say. I only posted the first comment to say why someone would rate it badly.

Yalls throw around the word queerbaited but it doesn't actually apply to this show. Just because you're disappointed…
Queerbaiting has all the subtext but does not explicitly define the relationship. This show did the reverse of this which is still quite bad. They explicitly mention them being in a relationship, and we have to take their words for it because the subtext that suggests that they love each other is missing. In this show they marketed them as a gay couple because that's what's popular now, without even putting any effort to flesh out a realistic relationship. That's why people feel lied to, especially in the last few episodes.

SO 'someone' made a very negative review for Tharntype 3hrs ago and gave it 1stars.They did give a glowing review…
Honestly I would rate it badly too for all the romanticizing of sexual assault (it's even more horrifying because of the character's sexual abuse in their childhood that gives them panic attacks to this day). Also intentionally kicking you partner really hard -Why is that funny? Tharn's brother's friend's relationship with him while he was maybe 13 or 14 is never called out for how creepy it was. The show also tried to humanize a character who plotted to have someone raped because they were jealous and tried to kill another character. It stigmatized metal illness by associating it with criminal behavior. Not only did the character not go to jail but people pitied him because of his backstory. The show uses rape and sexual assault as a plot device when convenient and brushes it aside at other time.

Clearly me and the reviewer are coming at it very differently, but my point above still stand. People need to step away from fetishising LGBTQ relationships into really chaste pure ones or hyper-sexual ones. The same people will be downright homophobic to a gay couple who doesn't fit their criteria or ask the most intrusive sexual questions to absolute strangers.

They develop the characters and premise in the first half to hook you in. Then they rely heavily on some overused and damaging tropes at the cost of pacing and consistency of characters to get through the second half. The finale has some contrived jealousy trope with a one-dimensional "bad bitch" (who been a total of 10 minutes on the show) being booed. Gotta blame some woman for the couple's lack of communication. And here is the classic GMMTV formula on 75% of the shows. I'm so done with their shows.

Gmmtv is always like this, "Hey guys here's this new cool shiny thing" and so you think, "Ohhhhhh! nice, really interesting stuff.I'm so hyped, let me have a closer look." So you start walking closer to a get a better look and just when you get close enough, your jaw slack with wonder (That was me from ep 1-4), out comes a sledgehammer that just smashes that beautiful thing to pieces. They really do end it with a bang, a completely unnecessary one.

In the end, it's not the worst thing. It's just that expectations were created that were never met. Ep 1- 4 took us so high that the fall down hurt more than usual.
