Last Summer started with promise. The premise is strong, the ML delivers consistent quality, and the FL has real acting power. The twin brother storyline had enough depth to drive an emotional plot. Now that I reached episode 6, the pacing feels slow. The show has twelve episodes, yet the story moves in circles.
The ML performs well and the FL shows clear skill, but the direction does not highlight her emotions. Her reactions feel sharp, yet not fully grounded. The chemistry between ML and FL stays weak. Their arguments feel like sibling fights instead of two people with unresolved feelings.
The strongest moment in the entire series is the funeral scene. The FL learns during the funeral that the ML pretended to be his twin for one summer. She also finds out that the real twin had died without her knowing. The shock, the grief, and the betrayal land with full force. The scene is powerful, clear, and emotionally heavy. It is the only moment that truly connects.
After that, the show slides back into the same routine. They argue, avoid, and repeat the same emotional beats. Meetings about the project slow the story down. Building plans, calculations, and government discussions dominate the screen while the relationship stays stuck. I want more insight into their summers together. I want to see why they cared for each other. I want emotional history, not recycled clips.
The setup is strong, but the execution feels flat. The writing keeps the story at surface level. I am bored. The actors have the skill to carry deeper material, but the script does not give them enough to work with. The show needs to refocus on the relationship to reach its full potential.
I waited months for this series, and by episode 5 of 8 all I have seen is endless eating scenes with no story progression. There is a villain, but no clear reason why he is bad, and the flashbacks do nothing to explain his motives. I feel no connection to him or to the characters who are supposed to oppose him.
It reminds me of the Transformers movies, where you know one side is good and the other is bad, but the fights feel empty because all the robots look the same. This show is the same, I know who is supposed to be who, but I do not know why I should care.
I dropped it after minute 27 of episode 5. This was supposed to be the turning point, and it gave me nothing. I am not giving it another chance.
I don't get the hype and the high rating. Except the nice actors, everything is else seems to be very low level,…
same here! don’t feel connected to the FL at all, why does she want to quit at every step? The characters seem one sided until know. Gonna drop it until every episode is out and watch when I have nothing else to watch.
So 5 episodes in and the 2 leads have not even interacted with each other at this point this may be the ultimate…
Thank you!! Gonna drop it for now and maybe watch it in the future. Also the numerous times they repeat scenes has me confused each time as if I’m watching a previous episode. This reminds me of the ‘My Heart is Beating’s disastrous editing. This is not for me.
And ofcourse:
- Stalker ML - Weird adults and actions - Feels like I’m following a class on how to research probabilities instead of watching a series. - Repeating scenes - VERY Slow pace - ML and FL have yet to meet and have word exchange.
Decided to drop this, FL and ML are way too insecure for their age. If it was a high school setting I would've understood this dragging on for so long. Great actors, good backstory but poor character and story development.
I've decided it's time to start reading the novel since the series is almost over. To my delight, I found this…
OMG same, my mind goes directly to Alphonse's monologue: "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's first law of equivalent exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one and only truth."
Because that didn't happen. There was clearly mentioned who is the aggressor and it was Ismael.Don't blame your…
You are completely right, I do lack in my understanding in Korean. The subtitles translated the situation in a way that Ismael was the victim, the same translation was also in Dutch an Turkish.
it’s crazy but I think I know what it is….
They haven’t had the scenes to show chemistry
