Beautiful couple bad production

I LOVE the main couple!

I also read the novel and I would have preferred that they stick more to it to a certain extent without making it about rebirth.

Unfortunately, liking the couple is not enough. I don't know if they wanted to prioritize one actor debuting or something but with the shortening of the number of episodes, they should have focused on the couple more in that case. The additional drama was not necessary.

Positive points:
- Cheng Lei does a really good job. I am impressed with him as an actor and would like to see him again in a well produced drama. Hopefully, his next drama will be good. Even if I really like him as Xiao Jue, I am excited to see him develop in other roles.
- I like Zhou Ye. This role was really good for her however, I think she could have done more if she had a little bit more experience. But I still liked her as He Yan. I think with a few more works under her belts, she will be a great actress.
- Their chemistry was great. I would have loved to have extra clips of their lives.
- The war scenes were mostly good even if they could have had less battles but more quality in the scenes.

Not so positive points:
- Production was not that great. They had a great couple, a good novel as source but they did not do it honor. They did not even show Xiao Jue's realization process, what happened to He Yan, the details, the pain that she felt... all the details that makes him angry and sad on her behalf. They only showed him say it. That's what's makes it disappointing.
- Villains are not convincing. I would have loved to have more subtility in their actions.
- Chu zao was too much in the front of the story. As the story and the episodes were shortened, it became too obvious. In scenes that were meant to have only the main leads, he was there. If the drama was 45 episodes, it wouldn't have been that noticeable but as it is 36, it messed up the story adding unnecessary drama and messing up the flow.

To sum up, it is worth it for the couple: Xiao Jue and He Yan are great. Xiao Jue is a great character that should have been more fleshed out. I hope someone write fanfictions about this couple to feed our fantasies. 😂😂😂
Watch it, you won't regret it but don't expect a really good story. Just enjoy, a good couple and their cute moments.

8/10 just for the couple and the action. Without the couple, this is a 6/10.
I will re-watch Xiao Jue and He Yan's moments.

Refreshing romantic story

I liked the old fashioned love story with a hint of drama. I enjoyed the acting, the fact that the villains are redeemable.

I would love watching other dramas like this one nowadays.

Acting: good
Story: premise is touching. YhJ background story was disastrous and I would have loved more confrontations with the dad about his abuse.
Chemistry: the main couple was so cute. They compliment each other with different reactions to horrible childhood. The difference being the ML had a really good adoptive family for his whole life compared to the FL who had her grandmother for a short time. So she had only a really short taste to what familial love was which prompted her to obsessively look into her grandmother's death while the ML was happy to move on to have a happier life. He tried to make her understand that but ends up helping her find out the truth thus supporting and covering for her.

To sum up, I come back to watch this drama anytime I need a touching romance. It is also pretty funny.

Hilarious and worth it!

I loved it!

Dylan was amazing in this drama. The romance is background but you actually don't care. The story is captivating, with plenty of hilarious moments.

I loved the ML's journey to becoming strong while staying so unserious.

Waiting for the second season!!

Don't hesitate to watch it. You won't regret it!

Watchable drama! Could have been great!

I would have rated the drama 9.5 or 10 if they had addressed some issues in the couple's relationship like her past (the reason why she had to lie), his cold attitude towards her (and their marriage) as well as the quasi infidelity with Fang lei...

Both were flawed individuals and could have been a good match after discussing issues between them. However, the actors did a good job with the story/script they were given.

I think this drama had two writers, one to adapt the first part of the story with well deserved angst and another to create a different ending from the novel (fair, the novel ending was horrible) but the problem was that it felt like 2 writers that did not communicate with each other causing it to have the feel of entering a new drama mid way into the story leaving many issues unaddressed.

Overall, Zhao lusi and William Chan did wonderful specially the dramatic parts. Special mention to the actors playing Haochen and the mother in law.

I recommend watching it!

Best couple representation in a historical drama!

One of my favorite dramas of all time!

Very good romance!
As much as we wanted more Chang yu and Xie Zheng moments, we were spoiled with the 15 first episodes. We saw them get to know each other and falling in love.

Story
I read the book before watching the drama which is most of the time a disaster for me (comparing every moments) but in this case, it was very well done! Production was excellent. The story was well fleshed out.

One very small criticism (mimimal) : would be the typical rushed ending. The earlier war scenes were more impressive and well produced compared to the ending rebellion scene with Qi Min, Wei yan and Xie Zheng.

Another criticism (but really small detail) is I would have loved to see more of Xie Zheng as Marquis of Wu An, as the war lord capable of doing damage. In the book, he is very smart, arrogant, violent/dangerous and very possessive. They smoothed him out in the drama which I liked but I felt that they forgot to give him more personality. They also made him more vulnerable which is good but he shaked off injuries quicker in the book.

I love Chang Yu ! She is one of my favorite female lead. Courageous, responsible, silly, strong, protective and loving. The only thing is they rush through her becoming a general making her look unlike a general contrary to the book version where they laid foundations for her becoming a great leader. Where in the book, Xie Zheng / Yan Zheng taught her to read a lot of characters making it possible to start reading military strategy books. Also, they killed off General He/Tang too quick making it that she had less guidance. They also did not include Xie Zheng making her read a lot of books annotated by him to make her a competent general.

Despite all of these comments, this couple is so good! I loved it. I can't get enough of them. The drama is absolutely beautifully shot. SNOW is the key.

Special mention for the children actors in this drama. Ning Ning and Bao'er were an essential part of the story. The director managed to include them in the story in an essential way that was better then the book. I loved seeing them on-screen. 🥰🥰 Ning Ning is adorable.

This was great. Best drama of these past few years. WATCH IT! IT IS WORTH IT!!
