I'm in episode 20, and I'm already bored and exhausted with the redundancies and stereotypes. This drama started well and then, went downhill from ep8. Almost all the men kept drooling over the FL like she's some goddess. Even the dashing and intelligent crown prince kept chasing her through several episodes like he has nothing else to do.

Chinese dramas have potential but I don't understand why some of their series keep featuring romantic scenes and lines that are cheesy and cliché: fireworks, floating/flying lanterns, damsel in distress, the awkward stares, etc.

A lot of illogical storylines indeed.

Wow, this drama is darker than I expected. But also very intriguing and serious, full of twists and turns. Although, there were some loopholes in several plot scenes, it's still a good drama. Chen Yi was ruthless in this one. This drama is revenge on steroids.

Nevertheless, I don't think it's a drama I would want to come back to because of how dark and melancholic it is.

The only thing that really appealed to me in this drama are the intense grounded fight scenes, especially at episode 4 and 14. I keep coming back to it. It's the best I've seen so far in any Chinese drama.

I'm not talking about artificial scenes where they're just flying everywhere all the time, e.g Blood of Youth, Who rules the world etc. I'm talking about close serious life and death sword fight choreography that will keep you at the edge of your seat. The only drama I can remember that has such memorable fight scenes are Side Fox Volant (I've forgotten the exact title). Journey to Love also has some serious one too. (Perhaps if you know any drama with such incredible grounded fight scenes, you can recommend).

Zhan zhao was exceptional and ruthless with the sword, but refuses to kill anyone because he believes in lawful justice. Yang Yang did a good job in portraying the character's personality and skills.

The biggest let down of this drama is the title. It should have been, Zhan Zhao, the Southern Knight or the Detective. There's nothing really that adventurous about the series. It was all investigations throughout. An adventure series would be likened to what Blood of Youth was like.

Also, in the beginning, they gave us hope of a romance and then let us down throughout the series. And the strange part is that they kept emphasizing an affectionate connection between Zhan Zhao and Huo Ling that will never saw. It was mostly just friendship.

Thank you for this. We all knew she was joking, but we also know she doesn't have any respect for him because she still chased him away just to please her friends. He also doesn't have respect for himself. He deserved better.

There's absolutely nothing that justifies that break up. There can only be one justification: she doesn't really love him.

It's disgusting and I'm tired of it. Kdramas do the same too. But this one was just bad

She's selfish and ML deserves better. She treated him like trash almost throughout the series.

The premise behind the series is good, but the strong feminist undertone just killed it. Of course, the ML was briefly unfair to FL. But FL undermines and trashes him almost throughout the film. At some point, she even called him her nanny.

I could still manage it until ep 21. After all he did for her, she still broke up with him like it's nothing. She could have just talked things out with him, but instead, she went for the worst option.

Almost all male characters were either simps or scumbags. I couldn't really point to any male character worthy of emulation. Maybe ML's PA? He's the only one that I could relate with
