Yes,he is in depression but actually depressive person does not talk shit about people in front of them, he rather call himself worthless. Let aside for second that this is drama but if even perfectly normal person said to you that your writing sucks would you feel like yaah tell me where it is wrong rather you will get offended. That's fragile human mind works. There are very few people who actually changes their writings. It's all about perspective.
I enjoyed drama but somewhere it lacked actually storyline. Heartbreak, fear to loose your loved ones , gaining strength to protect them all was good. We could say it was typical love story with many ups and downs but what mostly captured was story of Yuan Wuhao ,he just wanted to protect his brother. After his brother death it devasted him and our ji ling became his brother but his two obsessions actually played great part. Regarding Wu Shiguang he didn't suffered from lonliness in his life . He was protected all along but ji ling it is really sad to see that he has to bear all the sad things but what amazed me most that he still remained kind. Lu wuyi she played great part,I liked her too much. Her willingness to change past despite the thing she may perish was truly good. Wu wangyan she didn't played great part but yaah like we know without heroine drama may not get attention. At the end ,they have to bring back ji ling . Wow, Dragon Deity is highest position but without dragon deity power ji ling was true Dragon Deity. Overall this drama really engaged audience.
