Breaking clichés in Chinese republican era dramas is going to be difficult. Unlike the international market,…
I understand this. But what I said it's not necessarily in this type of historical drama, but rather in modern-day dramas. I understand that historical content should be preserved, but the romance woven into the story could be changed. I wish writers would push beyond the usual creative boundaries and introduce a different kind of romantic storyline within the historical setting of the drama, something that would genuinely catch viewers by surprise. Perhaps it would disappoint many people, but perhaps it wouldn't.
I enjoyed the drama, the characters, and the storyline. However, I'm getting tired of seeing the same clichéd plots in dramas, where everything is predictable when it comes to the ML and FL. I'd love to see something different, something that breaks away from the predictability we see in dramas.
In Brazil, we had a TV novel called América (2005). At the beginning, the story between the ML and FL seems to be going well, just as everyone would expect. But then everything changes, their paths take different directions, and by the end of the TV novel, the ML and FL don't end up together. Instead, both of them find new love interests, and each gets their own happy ending. I really loved that ending because it was something different from the predictable outcome everyone always expects in every TV novel like in Chinese, Korean and Japanese dramas. I'd love to see something like that in dramas: a storyline where the future of the ML and FL is truly unpredictable, and where they don't necessarily have to end up together.
So we finally got the last episodes… but the ending didn’t follow the webtoon at all 😩 Honestly, I was really expecting it to. I’m so disappointed with DEAR X’s ending — Kim Jae O and Yun Jun Seo die and Baek A Jin is the one who survives?? Like… why?? It would’ve been so much better if they had kept the webtoon’s ending. I read it, and it was honestly way better than what the drama gave us.
While I was watching, Maya and Indy’s relationship really reminded me of A-Jin and Jun-Seo in Dear X (2025). Indy does everything to help Maya with her revenge in Maya (2025), just like Seo-Jun does everything to help A-Jin get whatever she wants in Dear X (2025). I honestly loved watching Maya (2025) — the story pulls you in so much!
I read the webtoon and loved it so much. I honestly feel so bad for Ah-Jin — everything she went through as a child explains why she became the way she is 😢. In the last two chapters I was so disappointed with how Jun-Seo betrayed her, but at least Jae-O stayed by her side and protected her. I have no idea how the drama will adapt the ending, but I’m waiting for the last four episodes to drop so I can binge them all at once!
I cried so much in the final episode 😭 I really wished Thicha and Phatchai had a happy ending. I was so caught up in their love story that now I just want to see them together again in another drama! 💔
I really hope Han Jae Pil and Ko Yeong Rye get even closer, even with Seo Jong Hui’s return 💕 From the very start of the K-drama I’ve been rooting for Yeong Rye to end up with him. If they don’t, I’ll be so disappointed with the ending 😭 Just like Tempest (2025) broke my heart
