No. XL dies at the end. He never properly said his goodbye. Though, he left a letter for XY hidden inside his gift. It was left to the readers if XY ever read it or not. XY only knew he died because she heard it from a tavern (I think, I'm not sure), she was devastated when she heard of his passing. Like really sad. That's why a lot of novel readers either like XL or ships XL with XY or says that XY did love XL. It was said that XY never cried for anyone as much as she cried when she heard that XL died. XL, i think is her true love. A love that could've been if they weren't enemies and if she met him earlier when he wasn't the general. However, TSJ is the right man for her given the circumstances that she's in. I think XL and TSJ were the only men she love romantically. For CX, it's more a familial love
