Even to the novel readers, most are either on team XL or just basically really likes his character (not necessarily shipping him with the FL). I'm not sure but I think the author kind of said that her favourite character is XL.

It seem that there's a lot of different interpretations. I've seen some post (not specifically here) that XL was her true love (it doesn't also mean she did not love Jing, she obviously does) but then it would be too bloody or it would result to a lot of problems if they would be together. It would be a doomed love story similar to her parents. I guess it depende on the reader on what they're interpretations were.

I know right, it feels even more tragic as she did not even know what he felt for her.

Sadly, I do not think they will change the ending. Pretty sure XL will die at the end. Same, I was traumatised with TTEOTM, the only ending I accept is at ep 35 where everything was alright 🤣🤣🤣

The screen writer for the drama and the author of the novel is the same so I do not think that it will be changed. As far as I know, they mostly stayed true to the novel

I know right. Maybe they could change it where XL survives the battlefield and has another storyline in another sequel drama. Or let him die and at least let XY know his feelings.

And even then she would not really know how deep XL feelings for her and she would not even know all the sacrfices he made for her. He actually also made a last letter for her before he died but it was deeply hidden in his gift. And they were no indication that it was opened and I don't think she ever read it.
