I have seen comments like these a lot and I feel it should be addressed because it is getting ridiculous and I would like to address them as someone who has studied acting for a great number of years.

The main issue with negative reviews in regards to Red Velvet's Joy and her acting is that people seem to want her to overreact and let her emotions spin out of control and have a full blown screaming match in certain scenes when things do not go her way...but what people fail to realise is that is not what Eun Tae Hee would do. That is not in her character or personality..Tae Hee would rather cry and be hurt in private as opposed to breaking down in front of people. She is sensible, kind, but not a pushover and despite the faulty script and not so good writing, Joy played Eun Tae Hee very well, she did what she good with a script and character that was not well developed enough or 'good'.

I am not sure what she was being bashed for, it really does not make sense to me..personally, she made me feel extremely heartbroken in some scenes because of the way she can act so well with her eyes, something which is not easy to do, which surprisingly to me, some people were irritated by (?) Personal preference, I suppose?

It seems to me that people also mention Joy being an idol and that she should not be acting because that is not her job..but maybe acting is what she wants to do? She started acting like any rookie actress would do and clearly she needs improving (like any rookie actress) and if acting is what she wants to do, aside from being an idol, I do not understand the issue? If another actress was better in the audition or more suited for the role, surely she would have gotten it, I do not see how Joy is taking away roles from people, it is a rather silly comment to make, actually..actors get cut from roles all the time and it really is all down to the director and casting crew to make those decisions. Also, from what I have seen on YouTube, she also takes part in variety shows too, so, should she also stop that since she is an idol and according to some peoples opinions, she should 'stick to her job'?..The directors and casting crew will always cast people they deem appropriate for the role and if you say otherwise..then, okay..but you are sort of also discrediting them and their work!

I feel a lot of people also struggle to separate the actor from the role and it seems to me that is where a lot of negative comments come from. Fair enough, you may not like the idol Joy, but saying she did a terrible job when she clearly did not, seems unfair and that it seems to be stemming from your personal (?) dislike for her. I also believe a lot of people who preferred Sooji (who did a marvellous job, by the way), also have these same negative thoughts towards Joy. A bit of advice..please learn to separate the actor from the role!

As for the surprisingly popular opinion (?) which was that she did not use enough emotions in some scenes..if you want to see Joy screaming like a pig and falling to her knees, just so she can prove she is a good actress..then I must say that is an extremely odd requirement, especially if it is not in the character's personality to do so and it certainly was not in Eun Tae Hee's personality!

From an actors point of view, I do believe she has some improving to do but as this drama aired around 2 years ago and she has not seemed to act since, I believe, I assume she has taken the break aside amongst promoting as an idol, to improve and practice more..

Joy does have potential, that is for sure. I feel the script was not exactly good and the writing/plot was a huge reason as to why the drama did not do so well, so hopefully, Joy chooses her next role well..I look forward to it!

I highly recommend not reading the negative reviews before watching because it will spoil your experience greatly. The drama itself (without comparison to the original that it was based off of) was actually good and unique to your typical kdrama.

The only part of the story I didn’t enjoy was the parents storyline which kind of killed it for me a little bit.

However, I loved watching how the trio showed their friendship slowly transitioning from this extremely close bond between best friends to this toxic mess. I really enjoyed the way it was gradually portrayed.

The acting was really good, especially joy’s! I think a lot of people are only hating on her because she’s an idol and they seem to have some prejudice against idol actors/actresses which I believe is really unfair because some are really talented actors with a lot of potential-joy being one of them! I loved how she can portray her emotions through her eyes alone which made me hurt for her, laugh with her and cry with her. She did a great job. Her character however could’ve been written better but that’s on the writer as an actor/actress has to work with what they’ve been given and joy did amazing in that regard.

Overall, I really liked the drama and I feel that you shouldn’t read all the negative reviews and believe them because you’d be missing out on a truly good drama that obviously has flaws (much like any other drama) Give it a watch and you won’t regret it :)
