They work similarly to the Prophet. Each night, they can check if the person who was executed in that day's vote was a Villager or Werewolf. If you're looking for a more coherent and fleshed out version of this story, I'd recommend (not just to you, but to everyone here) the manga, where they're referred to as the Spiritualist.
