The novel version of Legend of An Le's Di ZiYuan is the strongest and pretty bad ass character I had read about…
Exactly! I am overall fascinated by Chinese novels because they go to extremes with their female characters, but when they adapt them, they reduce them. I've grown tired of writing it but I haven't seen any noticeable improvement yet 😔
I dont get the "strong" FL talk. Because usually these strong FL are also rude, ignorant, arrogant and hella annoying
In Chinese productions in particular when there are strong female characters, they usually come with multiple flaws with no room for character development. Apparently they don't like the idea of creating well-written, complex, dimensional female characters? It's sexist in my eyes. I can't think of many female characters who represent real artistic values in C-Ent.
Arrogant for example is a bad trait that is used positively on male characters to give them dimension but in the case of female characters, it is a 0. Due to the lack of compelling female characters, I have taken a break from Chinese dramas. More so when I realized that several were decently written in their original works, and when it came to adaptation, they were a mess (e.g. Rise Of Phoenixes, Bloody Romance).
I haven't seen The Story Of Minglan yet. But I've heard positive comments about her!

Do you have any faves female leads?
