3 eps in and i'm done. The acting is very weak, imo. I can often times overlook that, but when you've got such a dramatic storyline of physical and mental abuse, sexual abuse, infidelity, you need a very strong actor to carry it all and I don't think James is up to the task. The sex scenes are kinda steamy, but also so poorly staged that they lose some of their eroticism for me. I don't find the secondary characters likeable or believable at all. Gonna have to DROP this one. Hope you all enjoy it.
A different kind of setting and plot than the typical BL (this is actually an LGBTQ+ series). Mature characters, going through adult issues and problems. Some missteps along the way, plot holes that could have easily been fixed, but overall very strong all the way around. If Mix doesn't melt your heart and make you fall in love with him, I think you must be dead already. He's fairly perfect start to finish. Earth has really grown over the years and there was a great confidence here that he hasn't always shown. Li Ming is a gem. Such a strong young actor. I can see him in just about any drama, BL or otherwise. Wish him great success in his career and hope to see him star in another BL soon. Most of the side characters were strong too, even those that did not get adequate screen time. I'm a sucker for a deaf storyline and thought it was handled with great maturity. Everyone learned sign language a bit too easily, but that's not a real complaint. All in all a very strong showing that I will probabl revisit again.
Ep 4 was the best so far, and it looks like Ep 5 will continue. The way these two GORGEOUS men look at each other with a mix of sweetness and pain makes my heart swell. Was heartbreaking to see a bit of the old Fumiya show up, with his jealousy and anger. Ritsu always responds with such honest, raw emotion. I'm in LOVE.
Not much to go on from Ep 1. Most of the ep was imagined fantasies. The shower scene went on far too long. Interesting to make one of the leads a rent-boy, don't think I've seen that before. They will need to make him go through quite a change to have us root for him, though. Kudos to the Philippines for ALWAYS including trans/non-binary roles. But just wish they made them fully-dimensional and aspirational characters. Not enough here to hold my interest. Dropped.
The subs got better in Ep 3, but nothing else improved. Even forgiving the subs, this is some of the worst dialogue I've ever seen in a BL. Nonsensical. I've never in my life had conversations like the people in this series. NEVER. I just can't be bothered. I'll look for the steamy scenes in a cut somewhere later on, but I can't stomach this any more. DROPPED.
Kim Jun Hyung has this strange habit of looking off to the side when people are speaking to him, rather than looking at them directly. It makes it appear that he's either not paying attention, or doesn't care about them, or is distracted... but whatever it is, it's BAD ACTING. Also, I LOVE alchohol, but this boy has a real problem.
First 2 eps did everything they were supposed to. I really liked the characters , their struggles, their relationship and am rooting for them. I am not that big of a fan of successful executives like Nan who are complete idiots IRL but that’s a minor critique. Kun is doing a very nice job, really selling his “hidden” desires (NOT hidden at all). Loved the surprise kiss at the end of Ep 2. Sweet. Looking forward to more.
I liked the first season better, although I was happy to see Kiyoi’s growth and ability to express himself SLIGHTLY better this season. Hira’s debilitating lack of self esteem bothered me more. It’s 4 years later. I expected more growth on his part. The last episode was satisfying for that reason alone. They are a unique couple in BL and I do understand their attraction to each other so I enjoyed their journey together. I think Yagi Yusei grew into his role and you could see much more comfort in his portrayal this season. All in all decent but not something I care to revisit because of Hira’s lack of development.
This was just ok. I like all the actors. As everyone says, Perth and Chimon rocked it. Great stuff for such small insubstantial roles. Phuwin got better as the series progressed but I’m surprised his acting has not improved that much given how long he has been doing this. Don’t get me wrong, I still like him but he should be much stronger by now. Also as noted plot holes galore. And lots of relationship restarts. They’re together, they’re not. They declare their love. They separate. It felt like they forgot where they were and every episode started from page one again. Neung’s drastic turn to suddenly become this bad ass did not really track. The island getaway where both just seem to forget their parents are in danger was just unforgivable. It honestly feels like BL is being written by kittens sometimes. Slap away at a computer keyboard and just accept anything that prints out. I did like the sweet, romantic and tender intimacy of the MC. Nice to see a couple who aren’t afraid to express their feelings in words and touch so openly. But that’s about the only good thing I can say. Won’t rewatch.
Ep 2 was a train wreck. The subs are some of the worst I’ve ever seen. But the dialogue is pretty bad anyway, so maybe it’s a blessing? 5 guys standing around asking “where’s Ken? I don’t know I thought he was with you. Have you seen him. I thought he was with you. Where’s Ken?” HES LITERALLY IN PLAIN SIGHT CRYING IN FRONT IF HIS LOVERS PICTURE. The story is all over the place. But the direction is the worst. Over a minute of slo mo as Ken walks up the stairs to the funeral. Over a minute of the two lovers lying in the riverbed, shaking. Over 45 seconds of the mystery man walking up the stairs to the funeral. They are trying soooo hard to build suspense but forgot to engage us with the story. I’ll give it one more ep, but fear this will have to be dropped. Ugh
Now that's how you get me. Intriguing and complex from the start. Delicious premise and nice twist. Strong, naturalistic acting. Hoping for the best from this one.
Intriguing premise. I like a mystery, so I'll stick it out and see where this goes.
Ken is one super hot lead. I actually thought Din was cute, so I hope he comes back, although I don't think he's end game (unless he's Peter).
Random thoughts... *WTF are they wearing in that restaurant? Vests with no shirts one day, long knit sweaters the next (from the preview). Bizarre. *Obviously, that fake eye was bothering that actor. He couldn't keep his eye lid open. *"They tried to strangle you with strangulation" Oh the subs! *If someone touched me when I was sleeping, nevermind kissed me, I would be awake in a second. *That corpse would have been so badly decomposed you could not tell who it was... but they expect the "doctor" to identify him from his looks. Hysterical. *I "love" stupid directing choices. Hand him a note. He reads it. But is compelled on the staircase to read it again. Because... ?? And even though he's strangled (his NECK!)... it seems to be very painful for him to put his HAND in his pocket. LOL Looking forward to more comedy amidst the mystery.
